Fuel Tank Painting

Hello,

Over the time that my bike has been standing, there has obviously been a slight drip of brake fluid from the front master cylinder onto the right hand side of the (metal) fuel tank.
It doesn't look like anything from the top, but when I inverted the tank to take the pump and filter assembly out, it is obvious that the paint on the underside of the tank has been affected.

My questions are:
Does the fuel tank require any special type of paint?
Is painting a fuel tank something that a professional has to do?

Would suggest base coat/clear coat process. The top clear coat is very resistant to petrol. Dot5 brake fluid will not damage paint but Dot 3 and 4 will. Painting is a developed skill that requires special equipment unless your happy with a rattle can paint application. In the UK a tank will cost you about £250 for a professional to do it. You must decide rather than asking others, good luck.

to get a good paint job done requires a lot of preparation. you could do it yourself but its not easy sometimes your better letting someone who knows what they're doing. depends on your standards. the gagster tank cover is a good idea
