hi this might be a stupid question but what is the best way to move the tank to wire my gps to the power socket on the left hand side of my 1200gs.

After biting my lip and editing everything else that I started to type, here is the info that I think you require:-

1) Remove both the seats.

2) Remove the two large side panels either side of the tank, two Q/R fasteners on each, plus one at the front on the inside.

3) Remove the two screws that secure the "tank" section to the beak assembly.

4) Remove the two smaller black panels either side of the tank.

5) Remove,(twist to remove) the slotted black cover left hand side top of tank, unclip the two electrical plugs and also the Q/R fuel line coupling.

6) Remove the two vent pipes on the right hand side of the tank and also the Q/R fuel line coupling

7) Remove the two Allen screws either side of the tank towards the rear.

8) Lift tank off!

It has just taken longer to type it than it does to do it ;)

tank removal

thanks that sounds easy enough just did not want to attack it without knowing what to expect. after the 3 clips on the side panel are opened does the panel pull off or has anything else to be opened

Or feed the wires through without taking the tank off, like wot I did. Can't remember exactly how, but it wasn't difficult. Feed for aux. socket, and loom for micro flooters, all down left hand side as you sit on the bike. Followed the wires and cables that were already there.
Didn't realise the tank was that easy to take off though.:o

You might just need to give the side panels a "sharp" tug to remove them, as they also have a lip on the top edge to help secure them.

Tip,
Add a small amount of grease to all the plastic lugs that push into the grommits, makes them easier to remove next time. :thumb
