I need to get the fuel tank off to remove an Optimate charger lead the previous owner wants... I searched but can't find a blow by blow account - so is it straight forward? I read about getting the throttle cables trapped putting it back, anyway a simple explanation would be very helpful ... until the manual arrives.
Thanks

Here you go

Remove seat(s)
pull off plastic side panels-no bolts they just push into rubber bushes
Disconnect fuel lines (2) should have quick fit connectors-take care to avoid damage to O ring seals.
disconnect electrical block connector-close to fuel connectors.
unbolt single fixing for tank-RH side rear of tank-nut is loose not captive so be careful!
Lift tank.-discover that full of fuel it's bloody heavy

Refitting is as they say in all the best books the reverse.
Some of the fuel line connectors were plastic-these can easily snap especially if its cold so be careful if you have this type.

Good luck

John

For less buggeration factor, un less you already have one, I would buy an optimate, give him the new lead and retain the fitted one.

Cheers - I also want to check the airfilter which I think maybe situated in the near vicinity :thumb

If you're only removing the optimate lead from the battery there 's no need to remove the tank.
Just undo the bolt at the rear on the R/H side and lift the rear of the tank up and prop it up with whatever you have to hand, a screwdriver, small hammer, rolled up newspaper etc.
Now you have full access to the battery terminals.

Haven't got a clue just yet - only got the bike yesterday... for all I know it could be under the seat  now... how do you get the seat off (only kidding) :D

And when you have sorted all of that just check the throttle cable is seated correctly on the righthand side after fitting the fuel tank cos thats usually the one that gets dislodged so you wont have any tickover below 3000rpm if you can get her started that is

Tried that - tank will only move about 5mm then gets stuck somehow.Tried gently levering below the mounting place where the bolt goes but don't want to break anything  I'll have another go during the week...

Tank

Lever it up with a screwdriver no harm will result
