Hi all

I have only ever put super unleaded in my GS but it's not available everywhere, particularly out on the sticks. Does everyone us super or will it run ok on regular unleaded -------- does it make much difference

I concur. Why on earth would you pay the extra for 'super' for a GS? :nenau

Kai

Yes, the GS engine is designed to run on 95 Ron

But running on 98 Ron can have an advantage if it is the "premium" ones, because of the additves that keeps your engine cleaner.

I often find that the 'expensive' petrol gives better economy but this is cancelled out by the cost.

Might be worth using if you have a Firestorm or Aprilia with 100 mile range.

BP do a really expensive diesel (about £1.07 litre) I accidently filled my car up with this.

Total rip off.

......however the most notable performance effect is that it makes your wallet a lot lighter hence increasing BHP/tonne:thumb

The one I rented in the USofA had a sticker on the tank recommending 89 octane. Mind you that may just be for California. It ran fine on 87 though.

UK unleaded 95 RON, UK super unleaded 97 RON.

European unleaded 91 RON, European super unleaded 95 RON, European Super Plus 97 RON.

Hence running Super in Europe is same as unleaded here

If the 1200GS has a knock sensor, it will advance ignition to take advantage of higher octane fuel, if not then it is a waste of money.

Yes, makes my wallet a lot lighter.

If I was the sort of man to change bike or car every 3 years, I would certainly not run with premium fuel, or even buy premium oils.

But I keep vehicules quite a long time. I buy them new.
My 1100 GSX-R has 17 years and 180 000 km
My Land Rover Defender has 11 years and 220 000 km
My 1200 GS has.....just 3 months and 2000 km ..... :augie :D

Always buy premium fuel and oils and my engines look like new (or almost). No oil consumption ( in fact there is, but so small) , no blue smoke etc....

Do oil analysis quite often to know how the engin wears etc....
For thoses who read french, OK, for the other look at pictures....easy to understand.

Some say that i'm a little bit mad to do all that.....

My Land Rover diesel engine at 200 000 km : clean (certainly due to pemium oil and oil change intervalles following spec). No black or brown deposits.

So ?

I'm just hoping that making today my wallet a little bit more lighter by using premium oils and fuels, that it will save me money in the future.

That's all.
