I've had a shite day off....pishing it down (bike ride exit stage left)...staff giving me unnecessary gyp on the phone.
Only recovered by polishing off the last half of the bottle of Glen Moray this evening and the fact that the Lovely Lorna (our local postie) has delivered my 2 real fur Russian Ushanka hats (from St Petersburg) this aft.

Sooo, Tue will be an unofficial day orf, bollox to it, I work my fookin arse off when everyone else is out on the piss so I'm out of here...everyone can go and eat shite as far as I'm concerned on this Tuesday.

I'm getting on the bike and fookin' orf for the day.

Medium sized run around Sutherland, methinks.

Groats -A9 to Dornoch, Lairg, Ullapool, Durness and home is looking good.

But, then again, front gate - cross road - order mucho beer in Sinclair Bay Hotel is looking good too...........

:beerjug:

Hmm, was thinking about a wee run into town today myself- but the clouds are all the way down to the ground...

Might head out later for an hour or so.

Might not:nenau

Decisions...

Well, off I set on my trip this morning.

Went to get fuel in Wick.

Topped bike up.

WITH DIESEL!:blast:blast:blast:blast:mad::mad::anger:anger:anger:anger:eh:eh:eh

You stupid, stupid TWAT.

Luckily I realised before I fired the bike up. A quick call to Calterdon BMW and one of the Techies told me (after he'd stopped laughing:mad:) that the under the seat is a big screw-off lid to access the fuel - so a peice of piss to get the fuel out.

Bloody BMW's, it was on that tight that we couldn't shift it, so Paul from AMS bikes in Wick came out with his siphoning kit and managed to get most of the fuel out..after he had finished laughing as well.....

Topped up with freshers and went for a run. A bit lumply but no smokey exhaust. Took some more fuel out and topped up again. Bike better.

Soooooo, I never did my tour of the Far North as expected. it was lunchtime by the time I'd got sorted - so I had a run up to the Kyle of Tongue and back via Atnaharra. Lovely sunshine, dry roads...excellent.

I'm trying to email some piccies from my phone - I'll post them when I've done it.

I'm doing the original plan tomorrow if the weather's OK.:thumb2

Providing I put the right fuel in......

I was going to head for Loch Eriboll and Durness, but decided to take a back road down the side of Loch Hope to Altnaharra - having a look at Dun Dornaigil Broch on the way past.

This is a lovely route, didn't really take any photies to do it justice.

But (and it's a big but) this road is hardly used - and that means the areas not worn by car wheels are covered in sods of grass. And I'm not talking the odd blade here - a central line of turf that can stertch for miles. The result is that you spend mile after mile trying to slot the front wheel in between the grass at the side, the grass in the middle of the road, the potholes, the crap washed down off the hills and the mud. I nearly lost the front end on more than one occasion....nice scenery though.

Archaeologists cannot decide if brochs were purely defensive or status symbols. My own theory is that they are Iron Age pizza ovens.

Once I got to Atnaharra I headed back up to Kylie Tongue and on through Thurso home.

The last shot is taken from the road between Altnaharra and Tongue. It was a 40-odd mile round trip just from Tongue to Altnaharra via Loch Hope and the Broch and back up to Tongue....and I didn't see one single car on that leg of the journey.....

We call them Boreens over here Klanky and the country has a great network of them. Challenging riding at times as you say, but you will usually find some lovely places that you wouldn't see at all if you stayed on the main roads. We love them. :)

Nice pics BTW. :thumb2
