Anybody ever fitted a full fairing to a GS?.......

......or even heard of anyone doing it?

....any pictures?

I'm getting these weird thoughts and urges to change the GS1150 to something just as practical but more copssetting as I am getting older......I've had it from new for 6 years, love it to bits but it is just so damned tall and heavy!

....but having looked around the market place I just cannot find anything that:

a) floats my boat

b) that I can afford

c) that is lighter in weight and closer to the ground so you experience less of those embarrassing...''Oh f**k it, I've dropped it again'' moments as you try and manouever it about in the garage!

d) so all round practical and comfortable both one or two up

e) easy and cheap to service

....and even the rest of the BM range is getting ever more Jap like, crap head down arse in the air seats that are like ''riding a thong'' and impossible to home service unless you got access to a NASA support team,

Doesn't anybody else but me want a ''real'' motorbike anymore?......or do people just want to buy week end toys that they ride for 5 minutes to get to a local bike meet...get off, stroll around and look at all the other W/E warriors and then ride the heady 5 minutes back home?

I'm getting old so I've earnt the right to be grumpy!

Safe riding,

Spotless

Hi mate.

Full fairing would err, make the GS look er, intere.......... ferkin odd:comfort.

A considerably wider top screen would be good. Can't you nick something one night from one of the bikes parked up in the barn:eek:

try levelling yer drive:rolleyes:

Can't imagine what a GS would look like with a full fairing; anyway it would still be tall. You could get yourself an 1100 or 1150RS. I have an 1100RS and I reckon its one of the best bikes I've had in 40 years of riding. Then again I also rate my GS. The RS seems to tick all your boxes, unless you want new, in which case I tend to agree with you - the new Beemers are not my cup of tea either, at least, not until they stop using owners as product developers. It's a shame BMW didn't update the RS - to my (biased) mind always the best looking, whether an oilhead, K-series or oilhead. The ST might be a good bike to ride, but IMHO I imagine it's a bit like having an ugly wife - after a while you'd get fed up justifying it to all and sundry who keep pointing out how ugly it is, however functional it may be. :D Cue for tirade of abuse.........

Somebody over on the BM club forum describes GSers as RT owners in denial :D
I thought it was quite good.

It's not.........HTH

An Aeroflow might be a good compromise.....

....and if you upgrade to a more modern motorcycle....

Hiya Eliminator

.....how you keeping?.....

....what d'ya mean ...it'd look weird.....a GS already looks weird!....definately a form over fashion bike all right!

.....if I'm ecentric enough to ride one already .....a little weirder can only be better surely?!.....

.....no, it was just a wild thought.......I'll probably stick with the old bike......but I will look into the suggestion of a bigger screen.....but all the screens I have seen always seem a lot a money for little gain.......whereas I thought a fairing would be the bizz.....a lot of gain

....now, if somebody would come out with a lowering kit.....I don't just mean a skinny seat foam....I mean lowering the whole bike so you can get yer feet flat on the ground when you are sat in the saddle and not just your tips of your toes.....

...blimey, I must stop eating those mushrooms I find in the field when I walk the dog....they are clearly making me have lot's of whacky thoughts!....or is it this glass of malt?....

......anyway Eliminator....have a great W/E....you out and about with your KTM buddy?.....pass on our very best regards,

Safe riding,

Can't help with the height and weight but one reason I swapped my 1150GS for my current Varadero was the better weather protection.

:thumb2

do a google image search for (i think :blush) "Heinrich" leg shields - as fitted to some pre '81 boxers.
them and a .. er... substantial :augie screen - say a 'Morgan'.
with a bit of foostering to get old to fit new - you'd end up with serious weather protection. :thumb2

but it would look not just eccentric :augie -
lets say, you'd have purists crying into the pockets of their Barbour jackets and putting their pipes out too.
fugly is too mild a word :D

Leg shields may be a good compromise - I have fitted a pair (acquired from M&Ps for about £120) and along with an MRA Vario screen and a apir of homemade wind deflectors between the screen and the shields works very well at deflecting much more of the wind and rain. Picture at bottom of page here.

I like it, BUT you might as well buy an RT.
Who makes it and does it mate up to the 33ltr tank?

EDIT:
Did a search on the photo title.
German translation: Vollverkleidung = dustbin fairing
which some of you may agree with.
