funny noise from drive shaft

Got my 2000 1150GS two weeks ago, and I have noticed a funny noise (sorry, it's new to me), when driving off, coming from the front end of the drive shaft (at least I think that's what it is). Doesn't always happen, slight clicking and slurring noise.

I mentioned it to my dealer and they suggested that this might be the ABS kicking in, but then, where is the link between the ABS and the drive shaft .

Any ideas anyone?

There isn't a link. When you start the bike and pull away for the first time the ABS does a test which sounds very clunky/mechanical. It could well be what you are experiencing. Then from time to time when you stop for some red lights, it will do the test again.
