Hey folks just after a bit of advice before installing some kit on my 09 GSA.

I want to add a USB socket (already purchased from burnsmoto) so I plan to install a fuzeblock fz1 from NN so I can also power other things in the future.

Question is I recently installed an autocom system and powered this using BMW's splitter cable running from the underseat power outlet. Should I re-install the intercom so it's powered from the fuze block as well or just leave it the way it is? In any case I'd be using the accessory socket wiring for the fuze block switching lead.

Everything is working fine so I'm loathe to change it but want to do the neatest job I can really. I'm also concerned about any interference over the intercom if I introduce the aux board.

Thanks for any advice

First of all check where you intend to put it all. I have fitted a Fuzeblock to my 2011 GSA under the seat. I binned the tray, and made up a small aluminium shlef velcro'd in place. Fuzeblock underneath and autocom on top.

Watch out, the rubber strap feeds directly through the plastic mudguard and lets water through.

You can do it either way. A problem with powering off the canbus on the 2011 GSA is that power is on when you turn the key, and thats when your blutooth goodies tune in, including phone and headset. The canbus then turns the lot off as you press the starter to allow for the power surge, before power comes back on. Problem is - Not all of the blutoothes then re connect the second time.

I'd certainly make the USB switchable rather than live tho. Is there

Thanks for that. I'm planning to mount the fuze block either under the seat near the battery or in the tool tray along with the autocom.

I'd certainly keep the USB switched to avoid draining the battery though.

Question is whether to change the autocom so it's powered by the fuze block or just leave it separate?

Where are most of the 12v consuming devices going to be?
If handle bar mounted, then is it not best to have the fuse box up there, so just giving a feed and earth cable running up to it. The switched relay can be mounted along side the battery box, thus using the local switch (5A) canbus controlled plug. There will also need to be a master fuse as close to 12v+ of the battery feed to relay/fuse box.

I have various things wired through a fuse block, in particular the Zumo and the Autocom. With the fuse block giving them both a common earth I have never had any ground loop isolation problems.

Thanks guys. I haven't decided where to mount the USB socket, I thought up near the clocks so its out of the way of the elements? Would still be easy to run a cable to the fuze block if I mounted it under the seat next to the battery or tool tray.

I think as the autocom is already wired to the splitter cable I'll leave it like that and use the fuze block for any future add ons.

Just an update to say I recently purchased a PC8 from Jim @ Eastern Beaver, and can honestly say its a quality piece of kit. Very impressed with the service and build quality etc. If anyone is looking for such an item i'm fairly sure you wouldn't be disappointed.

+1 I have had mine fitted for about a year now. Have made use of Jim's wiring looms over the years as well and his shipping costs from Japan are very reasonable.
