Ah-ha, now there are other photos, when I looked yesterday there was only the close up of the tank.

Interesting... it has an MPH speedo, I would expect all Basics to have a KPH speedo - that might move me to question the mileage. Does South Africa use MPH or KPH? A Kalahari might have an MPH speedo, but then it would have Kalahari on the tank.

I purchased a kalihari from germany 3 or 4 years back and it came with a km/hr speedo. This looks like a Basic with the £800 kalihari tank fitted.
I would not trust the milage but it does look like a bike that has seen very little use.

Apart from double-fender, of course the double-single rack also costs:

This is the first time I seen a R100GS single seat mounted with the PD tank. Quite nice.

I've emailed the seller
'I'm interested in your Basil, can you confirm it's not Fawlty'

:clap (I was wondering how to introduce the 'other' Basil line of humour)

Although pricey, it's not without its attractions as a deal, I suppose - could appeal to some continental buyers. Luckily I'm very attached to my own Basic which is the only bike I've ever bought new (in Germany, with a KMH speedo).

The Basil engine doesn't produce a lot of bhp but it's quite torquay.

If you study the photos its not a PD Tank, its a standard R100GS Tank and Single Seat I think they held only a few litres more, I have seen 2 mudguards fitted before, the low one keeps of all the dirt , the high one is left on for cosmetic purposes, this was probably copied from the R11GS etc as they have a low gaurd and a Beak

Looking at it again, that is not the Kalihari tank but a standard GS paralever tank. Seems a nice bike but the standard Basic and Kaliharis are better looking imho.

True, true, I've got to admit I didn't notice that, so the Basic design was perfectly applied to a paralever tank.

It makes the whole thing all the more intriguing. Obviously the work of an enthusiast with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the parts bin and attention to detail, who has created a 'custom' Basic presumably to their own very specific taste, but who's hardly used it. Give the man a Bushmills for his single mindedness and if I was a Russian millionaire I'd be reaching for my cheque book.
