Ok, just picked up my "new to me" X-country after the appalling shock of having my moderately beloved F800gs stolen from outside my home. Loving it, good little motor and tough little bike able to handle a great deal of abuse so far with more to come. Slight issue which I would like to clear up to put my mind at rest while I still have some warranty on the bike. It started to hunt the other day, like the revs on tickover were rising and falling in waves but this in no way effects power. This morning is didn't want to start, fired and then stalled instantly every time but switching her off and on again cleared it up and she ran fine.
Any advice? Is this normal?

Cheers guys.

The fuel injection system calibrates itself each time you turn the ignition on. If you start the bike / turn the throttle before the red light stops flashing it can mess up the calibration. I have managed to do this before resulting in a complete loss of engine idle. As you say, switching off then on clears the problem.
