Reading through some of the threads, I'm seeing dismay at some bolt-ons that have not worked, in fact some of the bling has not even made it on to the bikes.....:augie
My latest disappointment (Gaz is going to bo!!ock me:blast) is the R&G Tail Tidy.
I had the bike on the trails yesterday for it's first 'real' trail ride, and my back and backside was soaked, the mud and water from the rear wheel had free-rain to cover the rear of the bike.
I think it may have to come off until the summer....... European, not UK summer.:D

What have you fitted or not after purchasing..... I need to know what to avoid?;)

Timpo.

I hate to disappoint you Timpo..................but sticking back the original no. plate will not be a huge improvement.............lack of sidepanel on the rightside is the problem to the mud woes

My tip...................ride around the outside of the puddles..............that's what I do...................people often ask my why?

I say that a dry bum and dry boots is the key to enjoyable trailriding:thumb:D, not being wet and fecking cold:mad:

Ohh....................and you'll lose the thing when the shock bottoms out and the tyre catches it:blast

Only thing I haven't fitted is some TT carbon exhaust shield bits, bought cheap from German Ebay.............why?.............I dunno

Although I have plenty of duplicate OEM parts for the time when the original parts are scrap.................like new plastics, complete exhaust, calipers etc

:D:D
yep, I fitted the R&G and then found I was getting covered in shite, which if I'd thought about it was inevitable because it makes the rear of the bike 'shorter' than the rear of the tyre:blast
Now you know why I've got a huge numberplate on and an extender on the front (bodged from a CRM).
I don't get any mud or water from either end now.

I found heated grips weren't worth the effort on mine and so removed them, the power supply is pretty weedy.

Also, the TT 'chain guide' only succeeded in guiding my chain OFF the sprocket after I'd re-aligned the guide by bollocking if off a rock or two over Barmouth way and got stuck in a bog. The chain came off when you tried to get the bike out because I was having an, erm, off day:tears

Good call Gaz:thumb

I hate the crap that gets thrown from the front mudguard

Chainguide - I find it ok and try not to make contact with any trail boulders

Rear Disc protector......................really rate this as mine has got plenty of gouges in it and has saved the disc many times:thumb

Timpo
re fit the rear mudguard, i have on mine and its a 100% improvement, anyone want to buy a 2nd hand R & G tailtidy:thumb

Seem to now have a happy compromise re bent gear lever (stopped falling off Johnny) as you suggested Timpo moved it up only two splines (as it fouls on clutch cover any more) and it is much better, not perfect but better.

Great bikes though:thumb2

I had an H4 Hi/Lo conversion in for a while. Very bright but 2 problems.

Dipped beam is OK but the bulb shield chops off the bottom part of high beam. If you lower the headlight to improve high beam alignment dipped beam is too low. I think a bit of careful reshaping of the bulb shield will sort it though.

More of a concern is the clocks. The feed for the headlight actually comes through the clocks so that the headlight can be turned off during servicing by a series of button presses. I wish the eurocrats would just trust us to use a headlight switch but that is another story. Because HID bulbs draw a large current during start up, before settling down to 35W, the clocks would often reset themselves and show an error code. I am pretty sure the way round this is to feed the lights direct from the ignition switch, and add in a separate light switch at the same time.

Until I get round to these jobs I am back to a standard bulb. Typically just when I could really use the extra light.

.... so that the headlight can be turned off during servicing by a series of button presses. ....

Does anyone know if this can be done with the regular headlight and if so what the sequence is?

No idea what the sequence is but I have been reliably informed BMW connect the lights in this way. Our headlight is definitely connected through the clocks as somebody on advrider melted the connector on the back of the clocks with an HID bulb fitted. The strange thing is that my HID is powered through a relay connected directly to the battery. The standard headlight connection only switches the relay yet it draws enough current to drop the voltage to the clocks enough that it acts like the battery is disconnected. This is with a new battery replaced under recall as well as with the original battery. Any electrical experts able to explain this?
