G650X Country

I was stuck in Peterborough for 4 hours yesterday so the logical thing was to pop up the road to those nice Balderstone chaps for a cup of tea (well it is free )

Now my wife has wanted to do her bike test for a while but could never find a bike she liked, the FS650 Husaberg appealed to her, but this would be like introducing a kitten to an axe murderer and she would struggle with the kick start. She likes the HP2 (Yeah right!) but apart from that nothing really did it for her until she saw the G650X Country and fell in love with it.

So back to my free cup of tea... Ooh look you have the new 650 singles, very shiny they are as well, might as well sit on the X Country demo, yada yada yada - TJ was very nice and a deal was done on the demo bike which has ABS fitted - must be good for a new rider.

Thing is I did not take a licence with me as I had not planned on test riding anything, let alone buying another bike, however it is a 650 B*W so it is sure to be very nice and ideal for a new rider. She/we plan to use it to do some trips, maybe into France and DK, it is limited by fuel range but I will take the HP2 so I will always be the one scrabbling for petrol anyway.

So has anyone thought about one of these yet or tried one? My guess is it will be ideal for B roads and lanes and very moderate broken surfaces and should be quite happy at 50/60 MPH all day long, but what do you 650 guys n gals think?

Nice one, talk about impulse buy

I must admit I really like the X series bikes. The X Country was my least fav from piccies but having finally (last w/e) got to sit on them all and check them out from up close IMHO it's a very good looking 'practicle' bike and they all seem well put together.

Given that my 'old' GS650 would cruise all day at 80+ and given these are lighter and a wee bit more powerfull I reckon you guys should have no problem covering distance on one.

Yup, got a tank bag, tail bag and luggage rack at the same time as part of the package, it also has the pillion pegs and rear grab bars on the bike. I will see if I can find a small screen as well. Christel is quite capable of 500 mile days on the back of the Adv so I am keen to see how she fares at the pointy end

Sooo, time to get rid of an Adventure I think

I recon it will be more than capable of slightly broken tarmac . The dakar I have, although not in the serious off road league is very capable. The X is more off rad focused and should be better. I would think the biggest problem might be tank range especially when she finds it will cruise a lot faster than 50,provided she can stand the wind pressure... Not much of a screen..

The only thing that stops me buying one is....I`m used to riding for 200-250 miles before filling up and I dont think I could get used to sub 100 mile fill ups again.

I have had an Xcountry on loan from SBW for the last 3 days. i have to say that i am very impressed. it is light and very responsive. easy to sit at normal road speeds all day and will give you 3 figures at a push.

as a second bike to my 1150GS it would be great for the 'just nipping out round the block' or a light play off tarmac.

All said and done the seat height is an issue, i have been getting back on to the 1150 after each day and i am much more at home on that even with the weight. (actually i like the weightyness of the gs).

would i have one..... oh yes!! as well as the gs of course
