Hi, a bit of an odd one but having run fautlessly since I got the bike (07 X Country) had an issue yesterday. Went out on a run 30 mins in and stopped to check route, turned engine off , sorted route and engine wouldn't start, tried several times and was getting concerned re battery, nice gent stopped to help, he popped off to get some allen keys and jumpleads. 10 mins later he returned, decided to try again and it started but didn;t want to idle, so decided to get her home and keep revs up. Got home, stopped by shed let go of throttle and engine died! Left the bike outside for an hour or so, tried to start her and off she went, even idled. Took the Bike out for a run this morning, started first time, idled so went for a whizz around, got back home and all appears well again. So my question to the collective is, has anyone else had this issue? iIs it a precursor of imminent problems and what should I do? I seem to remember being told of a sticking valve of some sort causing a starting problem (esp when hot) do these bikes have emission controls like a EGR system ? could this be the problem? Sorry for long winded post but I don;t want to worry about taking this bike on planned trips this year.

Id suggest it's likely the throttle position sensor had lost itself, and has reset itself when left over night and gone through the initialisation/start up sequence.

Sequence to reset on the hoof goes something like this.
Switch off ignition.
Fully open and close the throttle five times.
Switch on ignition, dont touch anything, let it go through its initialisation sequence, and press start. Should be okay.

Its happened to me a few times, also when ive significantly changed altitude on a run also.

You can clean the tps bits relatively easily i believe, but ive never jad to go that far.

There is an auto decompression mod, but that shouldnt affect the idle, only starting

I had similar, did 15 miles , stopped at a nice spot to suss out trout. Few minutes later , no start? Left it 10 mins and started fine. I figure battery was a bit tired. Swapped over to LifePo 4 battery, no issues since. My older , 2006 f650gs twin spark Dakar had a bit running issues, cut out couple of times and screen/speedo wierd things. It was battery terminals not clean and tight enough, all good now. Will do no harm and eliminate possibility of low voltage problems.
