I am after recommendations on a decent Bluetooth headset I have been looking for sometime but now I must make a decision ......... So my wife says:blast

So I think the G9 Scala rider? Am I making the right choice

Can this be recommended by any owners:augie

Too connect my zumo iPhone for music calls :beerjug:

I have scala g9. I wanted to use it in the following way:

E71 phone connected via Bluetooth to zumo 550, and zumo 550 bluetoothed to G9 (as per scala g9 manual) BUT this doesn't work!

They all appear to pair correctly and zumo instructions can be heard through g9 however if you make or receive a call the Bluetooth connections disconnect or it may allow one call but any further calls cause disconnection! Its really unreliable if you want to use it this way!

Scala support reproduced my problems but blame zumo 550 for not being compatible! 550 was out way before g9!

I end up with just phone connected to G9 but its not what I expected or wanted. I cant have any sound from zumo! Phone works ok this way.

I have a Nokia C2-02 phone, Zumo 660 and G9 - all works hunky dory. Previouly had a Zumo 550/G4 combo which worked well but didn't use a phone then.

I've been using the SMH10 for the last few months and can highly recommend it. It's not as feature rich as the G9 but is very easy to use with the jog dial. I don't have a Nokia but use it with my iPhone and a 550. The latest firmware allows 2 bluetooth channels so you can pair both to the unit separately.

GPS prompts come from the GPS, music from the iPhone and siri controls the phone function, it all integrates seamlessly with no drop out.

One thing to bear in mind with the 550 is music is not stereo when you bluetooth it so sounds crap

The big advantage for me is that you can remote the boom mic and use in ear monitors

Ian, thanks for the reply.

Is this a common problem or just a one off do you know? Have you read anybody else with this problem?

Thanks Blue

I have only tried it with my G9 but did try with a galaxy s2 phone instead of my e71 and still had the same issues. Scala re-produced the problem so I assume this is the same for all G9 devices, they just insisted that it was Garmins fault, when you speak to Garmin they say the phone is not compatible with zumo but they cannot say which phones are compatible!

I've been using the G9 for a year or so...

Works reasonable as a bike to bike intercom, though it's flakey.. almost an art getting it to sync with other people... I've had 5 of us on once, but sometimes getting 3 is a chore.. It's something you get a feel for, and it gets easier.

But using the phone as a GPS, we always get kicked off intercom.. it's really buggy about this.

The +9 is not what you expect either...

If you are riding in a group you will likely be paired up in 2's or 3's... and if someone on your G9 list is on intercom A or B.. trying a G9 call to them will get you the response "busy"... I've not tried the "emergency signal" as a way to get everyone to back out of intercom. But it's pretty chancy getting the non Channel A or B to connect if people are chatting.

I use it to listen to music and Navigation when by myself.. it works great.. I use it to be involved with other riders when riding in groups and it's great.. But doing both is a stretch too far.

One thing we always chat about when riding together is the design of a better intercom... I'd love it of someone got an add-hock wifi network on android phones as the bike-to bike.. then bluetooth headset to the phone... It could maybe enable voice chat with quite a few at once... it could even be intelligent enough to align the phones to stretch out the network along the chain...

araspitfire thanks for your points on this, do you use it to receive/make calls on mobile as well as listen to music through GPS/phone. I only really want to use it for calls and music through Zumo 660? I don't have friends that use the same system....:rob
