At the same time I rang them and negotiated a deal on the gear change and some other bits they had listed

Happy with the alloy at the same price with "free" postage, gives me something to polish for a bit of bling

Just realised I've not posted any updates on the bikes progress for a while, strangely enough nothing since I took it to the Shropshire weekend
The Shropshire weekend gave me the chance to get some miles under the tyres, finish running it in after the top end rebuild and fill the tank to the brim to see how it handled combined with a full set of panniers.
As far as the tank goes I was suprised to say that with a comparible fule load to the standard PD tank it balance and handling were better as the load is carried lower, filling it completely did not prove a problem although it has to be said lifting it from the horizontal could be a problem with the additional weight.
All in all well pleased with how it performed and looking forward to the rest of the year trying it out.
Since I've returned the rebuilt "comfort touring saddle* has been received from Tony Archer in Huddersfield. I'd read good things abut Tony on this very site and decided to give him a ring for a chat about what as required and all I can say is he is a very genuine guy who impressed me with his knowledge and experience.
I posted him an old PD single saddle which was in really bad condition to be re-upholstered with memory foam and a gel pad and fitted with a plain black custom made cover. It took him 2 weeks but that included having the seat stripped and the metal base powder coated, all for the extremely reasonable cost of 60 of the queen's golden coins! The resulting seat should be perfect for the long distances involved on the trip, can't wait to try it out.

Only red crosses, there's three so it can be a piccy of your eye's a couple of weeks ago
One thing you might consider Thunder, is taking your old one with you.
'Twould be a bugger to bend it when you fall off and not be able to straighten it without the alloy breaking.
The locals will be able to repair anything made of steel.

No mention of how when on reserve, how it might be best to use the main stand, how easy it is to kick start the bike, and how quickly the battery re-charges

Roger the deflector I bought 2nd hand has had the back painted matt black.
I don't know if there's any great advantage but I'm guessing you may get quite alot of reflection back off your very white one

Good point there Jim, when I was having the paintwork done I had found pictures of the deflectors in both white and matt black on the inside and could not make my mind up on what to go for.
Decided to have the painter do the complete deflector white on the basis I could change the inside to matt black if I wanted to in the future but changing matt black to Alpine white would not be so easy.
Keith I've seen the picture you mentioned on Gary's site but also the original one of the bike. Guess what?
Since that original photo was taken I've fitted a wider alloy plate for the GPS mount and switches, have now room for a clock and accessory switches on the right side. When I've finished the layout I'll have it anodised black.
Could always paint the inside of the deflector with a matt paint.

Use Fablon [or similar] Contact sheet, matt black , then you can just use a hairdryer to remove it if you want to go back to white
