Gap between seat and fuel tank

I took my seat off today after a bit of rain fell and noticed that due to the gap obviously quite a bit of water gets in there. The battery is placed in the best position right under the gap to receive the brunt of the rain coming through. I'm no sparky but I guess its not good to have a wet battery? The positive terminal has a waterproof bootie but the negative is bare.

Is this something I should be concerned with and take measurements to 'waterproof' the battery?

I don't think that anyone has ever had a problem due to this - it would take an awful lot of rain for sufficient water to build up between the terminals, even so I don't think that it would cause any significant conduction between the terminals.

I am sure I get more water down there when I clean the bike and 90% of it juts runs out harmlessely

Always feel a bit bad leaving it out in the rain but hey...guess thats what its made for.

What you need to do is buy an Autocom and fix it to the bracket on the back of the tank......that then catches and soaks up the water before it can get to your battery

I have just fixed my autocom to that bracket, do I take from your comment that this may not be the best place for it?

I have my Dynojet Powercommander on that bracket and yes the little USB port cover isnt watertight, so I taped that one shut to prevent water damage.

Maybe a hint of sarcasm employed!

Mine lives there and is fine so far, I did think about fitting some kind of flap over it to deflect the worst of the water...........but so far I didn't get a round tuit
