Gap of Dunloe, Kerry

Is there a converntional wisdom on the best direction to ride the Gap? ie North to South or vice versa, does it matter (aside from the obvious 'sun-in-your-eyes' issue) ......I have a few days off at the end of next week and am planning.........!

I went from Kate Kearneys cottage towards Molls Gap. I found that you deal with the pony and trap's and all the tourists at the start of your journey. You will not be disappointed with the scenary whatever route you take.

I've always done it south to north But then I always try to come through the Ballaghbeema Gap first Much quieter & pretty spectacular too

If you stick in a waypoint at IV 75518 78124 you're about half way halfway along that road.

Thats precisely what I'm trying to plan! though I was thinking Northbound through Ballaghbeema and southbound thru Dunloe.......trying to fit in Priests Leap too........

Depends on time of year but I did it a few times in the early evening, 7-ish this summer - came home that way from riding with the Celt and others to Molls gap on the 24-hour spin - It tends to be quieter through the Gap at that time but still bright. (Loads of fun on a bicycle too)

Molls Gap into the Black valley and then the Gap of Dunloe...just make sure you do it before the pony traps start or after they finish...and don't forget to stop a couple of times and look around..
