Garda 3 Baddies nil

Down with that sort of thing:

A group of communists were tackled by gardai when they brandished placards at the car of the German minister to Ireland, Wilhelm Von Kuhlmann, when he went to present his credentials to the President in 1934, a few months after Hitler had taken power.

The three shouted 'Down with Hitler' as the minister passed through the centre of Dublin, before one of them was arrested by gardai. Another protester had a placard with 'Away With Facist Murderers' written on the front.

I'm sure they are doing a great job generally but on Friday last Ravenbyrne and I parked our bikes at the church in DunLaoghaire, yes I know we were on the footpath but it is enormous at the place we parked at bollards and bins so we were not in anyones way. A man watched us park and I suspect he then hot-footed his way to the nearest Garda and when we returned we had little slips on the bikes informing us of a Fixed Charge Notice for the alleged offence of - No Parking - to be issued against us. :blast:tears:tears

So I expect a fat fine notice will arrive and hopefully no penalty points!!!!!!!

Are we now the baddies you were mentioning Bin.

Tut tut, one simply can't be having members of the peasantry parking their two wheeled contraptions on one's pavement now, can one? After all, there's plenty of space north of the river for that sort of thing. I mean, really, it just brings the whole neighbourhood down. Got to put that sort in their proper place!

parking fine in DunLaoghaire:

wtf!?
i would fight that one.
maybe worth contacting the council and the Garda Station Superintendent - as i know for sure they have NO issues with Bike parking anywhere-within-reason.*

sounds like a fresh recruit being a jobsworth.

* using that (all too rare - i know ) thing called common sense - as you did when parking the Bikes.
fwiw; Dunl/R.down council are the most Bike friendly of all the Dublin councils. - based on MAGs experience anyhow.
Good Luck.

For sure I would go to see the cops and ask for consideration. No excuse for that bullshit. I pride myself on my pavement parking prowess. Never had a bother.

Og....... Parking a bike on the pavement is illegal. College green is another place where a clamp down is in progress . Too many bikes using too little space. And yes we all know that they have not allocated any "legal" spaces for bikes yet. We all do it & get away with it. I spoke to the powers that be on this one and was told that the "gotchees" :augie :augie :augie (parking wardens) may have some of the garda cards in their pockets. Untill the ticket arrives in the post nobody knows if it was a garda or a warden.

Luke,
agreed and granted -it's illegal, BUT also "established custom and practise". :green gri
without a (legal) alternative we have at least one leg to stand upon in defence. ;)

having also spoken to the powers that be - the ... 'understanding' with Dublin CITY council is no clamp or ticket without a seriously good reason (e.g. blocking a fire exit / inhibiting free movement of the disabled/Mother with prams.)
the person in charge of enforcement is a Gent, a pleasure to deal with :thumb2 and like MAG - more concerned with trying to work toward finding solutions than 'just-doing-his-job.

as for Dunl/R.Down - first time i've ever heard of a ticket issued in their 'borough'.

if ANYone hears or experiences a different case - please let me or the MAG office know.
Thanks.
