Hi all, i recently bought a 2610 from a fellow forum member with all the discs and bits.
First issue is that when i tried to register the unit, it is still registered in his name. The previous owner can't remember his details to deregister the unit so i'm stuffed on that front. :blast

Second to this i have loaded the Mapsource onto the computer with euro maps, but cannot unlock the maps as they are registered to the previous owner under his Garmin registration.

Anyway around this, or stuck up a creak? :blast

I do have the UK & Ireland on a CF card in the unit.

Wondered if i could get someone else to load Europe loaded onto a spare CF card, would that then work on this unit or not? May make the unit semi useable but without the pre-planning ability on the computer.

cheers

Stu

In the past Garmin were willing to de-register it for you if the previous owner was willing to confirm the sale either by phone or email, if via phone they'll need to answer some security questions. I did this for the purchase of my StreetPilot 2720 and they were very helpful.

Things may have changed but it's worth asking Garmin if there's a way to do it.

Thanks for that. Not sure how interested they are in supporting the 2610 now as it's obsolete to them.

Think the fella is going to call Garmin tomorrow anyhow, got to be worth a try

Yep, it's true that you won't be buying any mapping updates from them. However, I doubt if it's much skin off their nose to de-register the unit.

Well the previous owner did contact Garmin today and it sounds as if they have de-registered the unit.

Shall give everything a go tonight, so fingers crossed
