Garmin 2610 upload problems

Nazgul,

I agree this sounds like a new problem. Okay - just upload a single map to your unit - this will effectively wipe everything that's on the card at the moment anyway - and it'll save you waiting for ages to see if the card will accept new maps or will corrupt them...

this seems to be a serious problem, the unit cannot see anything on the storage.i brought the data card to a computer store and they put it on a reader and they couldnt open it,it said i/o error.so i am hopiong that it is just the data card.but as far as i know they are not easy to blow up.the unit still operates on the base map but not very accurately and when the data card is not in the unit no error message shows.
on the subject of Garmin,i have found that the support is crap.i got this guy who sounded wooden and just kept repeating that i would have to send it to them and couldnt say what caused it or even what the problem was.the web site say they open at 8when in fact it was 830 but in reality it was after 930 because the phone system just kept routing you in circles.garmin u.s have not responded to any of my mails that i sent last week....bloddy great service for an overpriced product.thanks for listening to my moan again mike

Nazgul,

do you have another CF Card (in a digital camera, for example), or can you borrow one? It's possible that the card has corrupted (in fact it sounds a distinct possibility). Try loading a sigle map (to save time) onto another card and then seeing if the unit can read it. If so, then I'd just take the card back to wherever you bought it and ask to have it replaced. CF memory isn't expensive - you may wish to buy a bigger card anyway (whole of Europe on City Navigator v7 is just over 1.7Gb)...

Probably totally unrelated (I'm a computer numpty) but I had trouble getting my 2610 to work originally and ended up turning of my Norton security system while I got it running through trial and error. I recall an issue with the USB conectivity but not exactly what cured it I'm afraid. When upgrading to Mapsource V7 just now the upgrade process crashed halfway through - PC wouldn't even respond to Cntl/Alt/Del. Tried again with Norton turned off and it worked straight away. Norton is back on now and all's fine. Just a thought anyway.

i am off today to see if i can get a card and hopefully it solves all.i bought this unit off a guy from the uk who lives in ireland but of course he doesnt wanna know and in all fairness the unit did eventually work when mapsource 6.5 was on the pc.so whatever happened ,happened on my watch as they say.the unit cost me about 300 sterling.it appears near with not a mark on the 2610 and the remote and cables all still in the plastic.main lesson....stick to main dealers..although garmin have been deeply dissappointing
