It's probably buried in a thread somewhere but is there a simple method of wiring my 276C (R1200 GS)? I've had power management problems & don't want to freak the bike out.

The 276C has a battery which lasts for about 16 hours between charges but it's a pain if I'm away & camping.

I don't need or use the sound facility

Wire it direct to the battery via the cables in line fuse.

On the Garmin 276c lead:
Red wire with the inline fuse to + / Red / positive terminal of the battery
Black wire to the bikes battery – / Black / negative terminal of the battery

If your feeling lazy, you can just trap the bared off wires behind the battery bolts, but a crimped or soldered terminal would be better. Tape up the other wires so they can’t get in contact with the battery + / red terminal.

Don't let the battery spanner touch any metal work while your working or it might spark up.

Double check what you have done before you plug the GPS in; if you’re not sure get help. Secure the wires/cable with a couple of small tie wraps.

The benefit of wiring direct to the battery is: With the bike off, the 276c will still work & get a charge; also you can set the 276c to switch on automatically when the lead is attached.

If you have a 1150gs (don't know about 1100gs) buy a power socket harness from your bmw dealer and plug it into the loom (very easy). If you already have a power socket piggyback the new harness into the existing power socket plug just under the beak. You'll have to cut the plug off (the newly bought harness) and wire the garmin in there (or buy two harnesses and put the socket from one onto the garmin). A few cable ties and robert is your mother's brother. Very handy and neat and all the wiring is easily got at if you ever want to remove it.
