No long bought one from a fellow member and am having problems trying to find the routes downloaded from the desk top. I have downloaded routes from this months Ride magazine and, with the Gramin connected, if I open the Garmin drive I can see the compressed routes in the drive but then cannot find them when the Garmin is disconnected from the lap top. Am I doing something very stupid or have I missed something somewhere ( need to purchase software or something, did I need to open the compressed files etc?) I am no computer buff so any advice in idiots terms please!

Regards
Bob

What extension do these downloaded files have (might help our advice if we knew)

Also did you just copy these files to the drive of the Garmin or did you pass them through the MapSource software to upload them to the Garmin

when we got ours we eventually found via the web that we could only load new routes by changing the memory setting in the Garmin, on our machine you need hit the volume button, once in the volume control press finger in top right hand corner of screen for 10 secs (theres no button there, but trust me), you then get to a settings screen, tab down and select MTP settings, in here change mode to Mass Storage

we were downloading from Tyre (a web program for planning your own routes and putting into a Garmin or a Tom Tom), it may not be the same issue for you but hopefully might help

if it doesnt work suggest you search for MTP settings for your specific device on google

cheers mark

The files from Ride mag are GPX which garmin can use ok.
When you open the Garmin drive the GPX files should be in an other folder named GPX.
That is where your gps expects to find routes.
