Garmin announces the 2820 GPS for motorcycles

But, the passenger cannot hear the phone, the GPSR, or the music. However - the passenger can pair up with a second telephone if they want. This is really something that is specific to the BMW helmet, not so much to the GPSR.

Michael

So the pillion has to put up with the rider singing away without the benefit on the backing track

One solution is that some phones have MP3 players so possibly the pax could listen to that.

Yet again thanks for helping us all out - you're a star.

In reference to the above quote - it sounds (sic) like they have really thought this out. Changing music volume for speed - almost worth upgrading my 2610 for that alone!

Many Thanks

For sure. You will note, if you go visit the main Garmin Mobile Electronics products page (click here: Mobile Electronics) that this is the first time Garmin has released a GPSR that is specifically designed with us in mind.

Looks as though it even displays the VOR installation!!

That’s probably in reaction to the Tomtom Rider

Despite all this wizzardry...

can't see anything that would make me part with my trusted tough 276C and for the money- unbeatable IMHO :duck:

New is not always better but without fail, more delicate/complicated and more expensive :eyebrow

Going off the phone record there's no rest for the wicked ;)

Hi There - yes, so true... :) I took the pictures of the phone records during the daytime a week or so ago, and wrote the post up in the evening last night - I would have preferred to have a more 'anonymous' set of phone records, but, what the heck...

I hope to get to Cambridge sometime this summer, if only for a social visit.

Actually, that's a user waypoint of mine. It's there for two reasons - first, if I am using the 2820 in an aircraft, it gives me bearing and distance to the airport (using it in off road mode), and second, there is an espresso and gelato stand at the VOR, which is a popular motorcycle hangout for summer evening moto cruising and socialization. You can ride over, watch the airplanes do their thing, have a coffee or an ice, and hang your wet gloves on the fence and let the radiation from the VOR dry them out for you.

Fixed it for you!

Excellent...

thanks for all that info Michael, now I need to wait for pricing before I decide on what to upgrade to.

Question reference the motorcycle mounting bracket, the one with the 3 extra buttons which sit on the left of the GPS unit, is that a Garmin product or BMW?

Cheers for the reply....

Mick.

Sure, you are welcome to copy the information to another website. I'd appreciate it if you would post a link back here to UK GSer if it is a moto site you are copying to.

I don't do any ab-initio training - just type-specific training for people who are already employed as professional pilots. All the training is done in simulators, we only use the actual aircraft for the final checkride - which is usually pretty tame, because the aircraft is empty and therefore very light.

I'm not sure what you are referring to - the picture at the top of page 1 of this thread shows the Garmin remote control stuck on the top of my clutch master cylinder with Velcro - that remote control is made by Garmin, and it is included in the basic package with all the 2xxx series GPSRs. I just stuck it on the handlebars because it is sometimes easier to zoom in and out and to page through the different screens by using the buttons on the remote, rather than touching the appropriate places on the touch-screen. For example, when it is raining out.

Mr Moore

After much research I had finally decided to take the plunge and buy a StreetPilot 2720

The POI swayed the balance

Now you tell us they are bringing out a StreetPilot 2820

The only main difference I can see is the Bluetooth...does this mean that If I buy a 2720 the bottom will fall out of the market and thay would get heavily discounted making me a very P***** off person

Your opinion will be greatly appriciated

Peter
