Garmin announces the 2820 GPS for motorcycles

Rumour I heard is that the SP2610 is about to go end of life in Australia
No SP27xx will be imported
SP2810? will be brought in towards the end of the year

BMW is still selling Navigator II in Australia

I have a quick question for you PanEuropean.

I do not have a bluetooth enabled helmet yet I still want to use my bluetooth mobile phone with the 2820. I was hoping that I could wire the audio input/outputs directly to an autocom and use that instead.

Do you know if the 2820 can be used with a bluetooth paired phone via the audio in/out?

If so this will greatly simplify my setup as then I can have the 2820 do phone/music/sat nav with just 2 audio cables.

Ta,

I'm going to guess that is possible, simply because when the car drivers use the 2820, they plug a small microphone (supplied by Garmin) into the side of the GPSR, and they then listen to the audio via the speaker on the power cable. The car drivers can also plug a headset into the side of the 2820 as well - there are two plugs there, one is for audio in and the other for audio out.

BUT: I do recommend that you contact Garmin tech support to get an answer to your question, because I have not much experience using the 2820 in those configurations. I do know that the Garmin supplied microphone works just fine when plugged into the GPSR, but whether or not your 3rd party intercom will provide a compatible input or not - this I do not know.

Hiya from Spain...
Pananeuropean... I have got fit in my motorcycle Starcom sistem, and i,m going to buy Garmin 2820,,,but before to do it i would like to know if is it posible the connection throught a cable between 2820 and Starcom for listening navigation orders, music and mobile...Thank you very much...Gus

Gus:

As far as I know, you can hook up the audio output of the 2820 to a third party audio control panel.

Garmin gives the 2820 user a choice of how they want the audio output from the 2820 to be configured: Either as amplified audio that is provided to a speaker, or as 'line out' audio that is provided to a secondary amplifier or switching system.

Where you might run into problems is with the microphone, if you plan to use the 2820 to control your telephone. The 2820 will only accept 'microphone input' on the audio in jack - it will not accept a 'line in'. However - if you plan on installing a third party audio control panel, chances are that you will likely hook your phone up to the audio control panel (with wires), not to the GPSR (via Bluetooth). So, I don't think the audio in will be a concern for you, but you do need to know that the 2820 only accepts microphone audio in - or Bluetooth audio in - for the purpose of the telephone, not 'line' audio in.

There is a bit of an advantage to hooking up the 2820 audio out via a wire, as opposed to via Bluetooth. The advantage is that if you plan to listen to music, you will get much higher quality sound via a wire than you will via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth audio output is limited to the frequency range 0 to 3 kHz, audio output via a wire has no such limitation, and is much higher fidelity.

Thanks for your informations michael...l.ll try to translate each word...my english it is a little poor.....Guss

Well - your English is better than my Spanish! I can cope with English, French, Portuguese and written German, as well as spoken Swiss-German, but I haven't got around to Spanish yet.

Maybe it's time to start - I have to go to South America in about 4 days...

I guess you don't get frequent flyer miles if you have to carry your own bag and drive the bus...

Yeah, that is true, but then again, what aircraft pilot wants to get a free trip on an airplane? I mean, I'd rather walk (or ride the moto...)
