My Zumo maps are a few years out of date now so I decided to get the latest update, and as it happens the 2010 maps are now available to download from Garmin, priced at £59.99.

Downloading them now - should have them in about 2 hours or so.

The tech support guy at Garmin said the updater would overwrite the old, installed maps so it shouldnt take any space on the SD card.

At least now it will stop nagging me to update the maps every other time I switch it on :)

update

When l installed download update it did not overwright old maps told me not enough room for full install had to delete old maps first. This was on a 2820 not a Zumo.

that is correct :thumb
i had the good fortune to buy one of the last 2820's and was due a free update.
garmin told me to go down the web route to update, to rewrite the mapping.as the free disc option just adds as opposed overwriting .
garmin said adding to the mapping was 2.4 gb and full install iE, install new mapping was 2.0 gb.:thumb

If you've filled you supplementary mapping memory with other stuff (Topo and other regions etc) then it's always best to clear these off before upgrading. Most mapping updates are larger (in terms of file size) than their predecessors and will need more memory.

Mapping updates should be loaded to your GPS as part of the mapping install process, if you doing it by selecting the mapping in Mapsource and sending it to the unit then you're doing it wrong (unless you have a 2610, Quest or earlier).
