i have a garmin 60c and city select BOTH registered in my name

can i use MY city select on another garmin unit or would i have to pay again? sorry if a silly question but i realy dont know

Your MapSource coupon or registration code is valid for use with your own Garmin GPS unit. This agreement provides a one-user license, and it is illegal to share this data with others. If you own multiple unlock compatible Garmin GPS units and have unlocked maps to one, you are generally allowed to unlock the same maps to one other compatible Garmin unit you own for no additional charge. (See our Unlock FAQ page for further details.) HOWEVER, this is NOT applicable to models which come with detailed maps pre-loaded and without CD or DVD-ROM's in the packages, such as the StreetPilot C330, C340, i5, 2620, or 2660. Also, if you own one unit which can use the MapSource NT format but a second which cannot, you will NOT be able to unlock the NT maps to that second unit.

just read your comments gypsy so am i corrent in thinking that a 2620 or 2720 owner cant update the pre loaded maps

i was going to buy a second hand unit with v 6 maps how would i update it ?

Garmin have stated that it will be possible to update the preloaded maps in the Quest2 and the SP2720 in the future.

When you buy a second hand unit is is VERY important that you get the Cupon Code (also called Customer Code or Registration Code) that belongs to the unit and it's map license. With this code you can go to www.garmin.com and update the map by paying $88. You should also check that you get the original CD's that belongs to the unit. You need them to install the PC software required for map updates and route planning.

This is misleading; I believe you are allowed to use a previous version of CN/CS with one of these units. I think you mean that one cannot download the NT maps & use them on an older unit.

Yes you can, you have 2 unlock codes with your original autokit, one with the coupon and one other which you can use on any compatable unit which you own. If you sell either unit in the future, the new owner can use the mapping on that unit, but they do not own the mapping license, you do and they cannot register the unit with garmin as a new owner, unles they purchase a completely new autokit and mapping license.

I’m 95% certain that you can use a second unlock of City Select on a 60cx

I’ll retain 5% as a 'get out' clause :o

Ring and ask them…

I`ll chip the other 5%, you can definately use it with the 60cx, they both use city select or city navigator V8, it will definately work :)

Yeah - the Garmin policy has been, and still is, very confusing.

What makes Garmin superior to its competitors is the PC route planning tool MapSource. And still they don't ship it with all units???

In the beginning the Quest2 came without DVD's but today they do. At least some of the SP2720 boxes comes with DVD's included.

Still - DON'T buy a unit if you don't get the DVD's and the Cupon Code. The price should be MUCH lower (EUR 250) without them. No matter if the map is preinstalled or not.
