Mine doesn't seem to want to work.

The old '98 machine works fine but why wont it work on XP?

The card is found, just says it wont initialise or something.

Anyone else get this?

:(

Nige,

My XP machine has failed to recognize my card programmer on a couple of occasions. Try plugging the USB in once the computer is booted up and you've got Mapsource open - this seems to do the trick for me.

MikeO:)

I had the same problem.

I fixed it by switching off the USB 2 port driver. I think the Garmin unit is USB 1? or something but is the lower speed version.

Since doing this no problems and the Garmin USB card programmer works and is seen by the mapsource programme.

Cheers,

My XP machine is USB 1.

The Mike O thing didn't work but...it works fine on my laptop which is also XP home.

I can't figure it...but I also no longer care enough since it works on 2 out of 3 machines.

So, thanks for all your help dudes.

:)

Are there any other ideas apart from those above to get the bloody data card reader to work with XP Pro?

It installs ok but a minute later XP rejects it saying 'unknown device'. I've tried 3 of the 6 USB ports and both with Mapsource running and not.

I'll try again in the morning as I'm deluding myself that it will be happy then. :)

Oh, merry xmas and happy new year by the way.

Try re-installing the driver.

Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Garmin Devices, Garmin USB Data Card Programmer, Driver

Should be "grmn1200.sys" not signed by Garmin etc...

Either update or rollback. Alternatively try downloading again from Garmin web site and re-installing.

XP Home occaisonally gets its knickers in a twist as I switch the cdonnection between different hubs ( 1 hub USB2.0, 1 Hub USB1, 2 USB1 ports and two USD2 ports).

Normally tho it comes up with new hardware.

When this happens I just re-install the driver or point the "new hardware wizard" to one of the many of these drivers I have scattered on disk...

Alternatively restore back to the last checkpoint when you knew it was working...

Also check that you have the full SP1 version of xp.....the unpatched version has problems with USB.

Thanks for the replies.

AdamZ, no chance of using rollback as it's not worked at all yet. Where can I find an updated driver on the Garmin website?

Also, do you use the SPIII on your S and if so how do you mount it? I have a RAM mount for my V but the SP is a lot heavier and I'm not sure I want to put additional loading onto the ignition barrel.

Fanum, I already have SP1 set to update automatically but will try again manually.

This should be simple but is proving to be painful in the extreme

Passed the "S" onto Pthag in Sept this year. Well if I can only do 130-140 on the bike I thought I might as well go rude and replaced with an XB12R. Very rude and scary in the wet!!! (Also only bike I can use at the moment with my doctors permission as the GSA is to heavy)

I used a SAENG mount on the "S" which attached to one of the forks caps (they are not adjustable anyway). Cannot remember if I passed it over with the bike. I had Garmin power cable hard wired in.

The SAENG unit is good but a bit prone to movement with vibration and requires fiddling with a screwdriver to tighten. They are quite expensive but beautifully engineered. It uses the Garmin cradle which is screwed into the base plate. Also they are not easily detatched (have to use a socket set on the "S") but I did a trackday at Mondello with it attached and no probs.

If I did not pass it on to Pthag I will send it to you. My normal principal with "no longer wanted kit" is for the recipient to make a donation to a charity (their choice in charity & amount)

Garmin driver at http://www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp - be aware that the new driver supports the new Garmin unit and you cannot download tracks, waypoints, routes through the USB.

I'd definitely be interested in the mount if you still have it provided I can get this USB connection to work :( .... I've tried system restore to just before the install and tried again, I've removed an IR device and a universal card reader and still no joy.

I did something wrong with the new drivers and caused the PC to lock up with the blue screen of death - first time I've seen it with XP. I'll have to try one of my old '98 PC's with limited disk space.

Cheers
