Garmin - Europe Mapping now on iphone.

Hi

It appears that Garmin have now released European maps for their 'App' for the iphone. Although it is not cheap it appears to have many features, with trip stats, route planning, lane guidance etc and seems to be comprehensive. Plus there are add on such as live traffic etc.

Given that 'Blobby' has confirmed that the iphone can be used with suitable bluetooth headsets to receive sat nav directions

I am now contemplating purchasing this app.

Has anyone else either looked into it or even purchased it yet? Anyone with any observations.:)

My only concern would be the cost of data roaming charges whilst in Europe.

Does the iPhone app allow you to upload routes using Basecamp? If you can upload Garmin routes then this is the perfect app for me. I've been using Tomtom very succesfully for the last couple of years on the bike but the inability to pre-plan routes and upload them like my mates with their Zumos is a big drawback.

Here's hoping.....

I don't think it does. Looking on the Garmin site it appears you can plan using the device but no mention of Basecamp.

I am going to give them a ring tomorrow as they have removed camera safety alerts for France from their App, but do not appear to have replaced it with the safety warning zone as they have on some of their bespoke satnav devices. I might have to stick to my TomTom Rider 2 without updating it of course :)

Hi, being a numpty at anything to technical I've got a sena smh 10 unit and was looking for an iPhone sat nav app the garmin looks good, now how can I download it through cydia and will I get charged roaming charges!

You can purchase it from the iPhone App store....

Or...

If you have a "Jailbroken" iPhone get an illegal copy from "installous" as I believe Cydia doesn't cater for pirated apps any longer!..

But in any case you would need to Jailbreak your device first... That said.. If you have updated your iPhone to the latest software version (5.1) then you are out of luck as far as a full Jailbreak... If you are still on 5.0.1 then you can ( iPhone4) ... not sure about latest jailbreak for the 4S..

As for roaming... At a guess I say its "free" as far as just using the GPS... (as you are only receiving a sat signal) But not sure if any data is required for the software to function... in which case there would be a cost i guess!..
