Garmin finally announce Zumo 660

In regards to the HTC Touch solution. I had investigated this method but decided against it for two reasons:

1) there's a lag on the GPS. Apparently the voice command lags behind whats on the screen (or other way around).

2) HTC are becoming famous for the playing music bug. Apparently in most of the modern HTC's there seems to be a random static noise. I.E - in the middle of a song the player makes this odd noise for a second or so. Seems to occur every few minutes.

I say apparently as I've not tested one but have researched forums.

As for the 660. I have the 550 and there's absolutly no functionality that would tempt me to upgrade.

....why not?? ...personally not got a satnav yet ...was looking at getting the nuvi 550, but by the time you buy the bike mount your close to 300quid ...so an extra 50 for bluetooth etc doesnt sound to bad???...or am i missing something??????

I wanted to know what it is that makes the 660 desirable?

It does everything I want, its got a nice big screen, I can use it in the car and its a reasonable price.
If I had unlimited amounts of free time I would research more, but I haven't so this looks like it will do the job.

Here's a question... I don't have a GPS and will be buying one when i get back from NZ end of March, I'm not sure weather to get a proven 550 or a new sparkled 660. the prices for each are compariable.....

From those who have experience with the 550 if you had to buy one now would you buy the 550 or the 660????

I've pre-ordered a 660 after deciding to upgrade from the 2610, a couple of reasons I chose the 660 over the 550, firstly it doesn't look like a childs toy like the 550, and the 660 comes with lane assist, after driving through Birmingham city centre this would have proven very useful and would have stopped me having to backtrack a few times. The 2610 doesn't cut it anymore, not sure why but as soon as I accidently go off route rather than recalculate it loses sat reception just when I need it the most

Yeah i'm going to NZ Wednesday but I'll be looking at buying end of march-April. If the 660 is worth it I'll wait, otherwise I'll take advantage of the inevitable price slump of the 550....it's already cheap and perhaps will go further still, but is certainly not going up in price!

To me it's simple:

Has it got
a) auto route recalc on/off and
b) auto-zoom on/off and
c) a good screen for allroad/offroad usage?
d) daily tracklog saving possibility like the Zumo

If all above are checked I'll consider buying it since my refurbed SP2610 bought from gpsw.co.uk now starts to shed the upper protective plastic layer on the touch screen after 2 years all-year usage.

So quick general question - if I get a 660 and use it for a few years here in europe, when i eventually move back to the US, will be able to purchase new mapping and use it there as well?

Coming over to the UK next week 29th April - one week in UK to fix and renovate my flat in Watford that's been ransacked - then off to Amsterdam (to get Dutch citizenship back.. ) - then take a drive via Belgium to France to look at some property.....

NOW.......... the question is ... I use a Nuvi710 here in SA - so that's cool and wife can have it for her cage.
I have been eyeing the Zumo 550 for ages... but now the 660's gonna be here....

Any specific release date yet ? Will the 660 be as robust as the 550? Where's the closest to Bromley, Kent that I can get one in the first week I'm there ..... or should I see whether I can get one in Dubai on the way over....? Main concern also is the Nav maps for Europe..
