I've given up replacing them. The software on the unit seems to be very buggy especially if you are doing custom routes. I do below and while I still have crashes they happen less.
*Once a month do a master reset.
*On custom routes break up the route into segments if quite long. I have had problems doing long routes and the unit crashes especially if you go off piste. Breaking up the routes enables you to know which part of the route crashes and the unit does not have to think as much.
*Delete all the extra languages on the unit.
*For £10 buy a SD card and store your routes as a backup on the SD card so if you have to do a master reset you can reload them.
*I tend to take my little laptop with me when I travel now and have Basecamp on it. While I use the laptop for email and TV a bit extreme that you need to rely on a laptop for such an expensive piece of kit.
*Only keep the routes that you need on it. Favourites don't take up a lot of space.
*The Garmin is an excellent music player but don't store the music on the main unit.
*Bring paper maps with scrap paper!
