Why me ?

Seems I have a terminal failure with my new 60c. I was using it last night and found I couldn't use the zoom In or zoom OUT buttons on the keypad. I checked all through the handbook to see if this was something stupid with one of the settings in the set up menu but all to no avail so today I phoned Garmin and explained the problem to them .
They suggested a 'system reset' which is like rebooting the unit. Press PAGE + ENTER + POWER ON all together the nice man at Garmin said.....nothing happening said I......hmmmm said the nice man at Garmin - very strange he said.
Anyway to cut a long story short the unit now needs to be sent back to Garmin because they have a) never heard of a keypad failure like this b) never heard of the reset not working. Net result I am GPS-less for a while until they can sort it out or replace the unit I guess. I guess I can be thankful it's not in the height of the biking season when I would really miss it.

Did not realise that there was a "height of season" ride mine all the time:D

Only kidding Marc, hope it gets sorted ASAP. Did you have to send it to the UK? Mine running on bike power cut out when I started the bike this morning. Shows how much of a drain that is on the battery, that it did not even have enough power to keep the GPS running..

If its knackered you could ask for an exchange Quest instead as you always use it on the bike or car...

Richie there is a season - it's just you are such a hard b@st@ard and I like sitting in my car in traffic jams around Antwerp anyway ;)....especially when it's dark and wet and cold :P

I was ghetting ready to pack it up and send it off but not being one to give up so easily I got to messing with it again last night and I don't know what I did but it seems to work again  so at this stage I haven't sent it off ....yet. I'll be keeping any eye on it for a while in the hope that it is OK .

I figured that I was performing the reset sequence incorrectly . The sequence is PAGE+ENTER+POWER on but the Garmin man forgot to mention this has to be done with the machine OFF to start with so I got the reset done....and lost all my stored data including my maximum speed of 915kmh :( . The reset didn't change anything - the zoom still didn't work so I went through everything and reset all the options to as I had it before and it now seems OK again. All I changed was miles to kilometers and some of the standard screen settings to my preferances so I can't see any of these effecting the zoom functions. Ayway it's working at the moment. :P

I did think about asking them to send me a Quest if it had to be replaced under warranty....watch this space it may yet happen because if it goes on me again it's going straight back before the warranty runs out !!
