Garmin GPSmap60cs or csx

Still dithering over which GPS to buy and am now looking at the Garmin 60 Cs and CSX . Have seen the CS at around £185 but the higher spec CSx is £220. Plus mapping and brackets and the price stacks up a bit, but they look to be pretty rugged systems. Anyone got one or used one? I have been looking at used StreetPilots and Quests but the prices still seem pretty high for an obsolete system.

I would definitely go for the CSX over the CS, the CS has a fixed memory capacity for maps and a slower processor.

The CSX uses MicroSD cards meaning you can have cards with an assortment of map types lined up ready to pop in to suit your intended use.

I'd also be certain if you're planning on using this on a bike/in a vehicle that you can read the very small screen from where you're going to mount it.

If you have that nailed then the GPSMap series are almost without equal in terms of their versatility (only the 276c with its mahoosive screen would make me consider something else for dedicated vehicle based GPS work (as opposed to basic 'Sat Nav' work).

another +1 for the CSx version, I use it for

on the bike (I find the next turn screen to be the best for bike use)
In the car
while hillwalking
use it on the bicycle

totally flexible system, that I don't think theres another system that has that flexbility that runs off 2xAA batterys so theres no reason for you not to have a working GPS system, regrdless of where you are.
the CSx maybe a bit more expensive but having the ability to use the MicroSd cards is a big plus

+1 for the CSX, assuming your main use is going to be off tarmac. I use one for trail riding and walking and it is pretty much the ideal tool. It can also be used on tarmac, but IMHO its not as good as the Zumo for road riding. Isn't it a shame that Garmin can't make a GPS that does it all???

it's the most versatile gps i know of.

...but the small (and dim) screen means it will be making way for a zumo 660 for most trips now for me.

not selling it though. it's too good


ps. the price you've seen almost certainly does not include mapping.

I have had both and the Sirf lll chipset in the csx is far superior and keeps a lock long after the cs has died under the first bit of tree cover it comes across.I have had more gps than you can shake a stick at and the csx is the only one I regret selling!

Same type of connector as the SP3 so yes.

60Csx will run direct off the bikes 12v supply (mine does)
