Garmin GPS's question re licence

Hi Guys,

I am currently buying a secondhand Quest off of this site with V9. yipee thats my major motivator.

I already own a GPS60C which is registered in my brothers name for his second unlock code V7.

So now I have two GPS units registered in different names with different versions.

The best solution to me logically would seem to be to register them both in my name and if not already used get the second unlock code from garmin for my GPS60c, sounds easy, but is it. Any ideas,

Like, don't re-register just use as is..... Would not surprise me if this was the best option.

BTW not bothered about version 2008, as V9 has all the roads I need....

If you could upgrade to V9 the advantage would be that you would only have one (2 gig) load of maps on any one computer to make routes for both.. (if you build a route with a different version of Map data, it will recalculate when you select it on the GPS)

Not sure that you can upgrade to an older (than the current 2008) version though.. (even if the V7 has an extra unlock code left)

It would cost you $88 US to upgrade the V9 to 2008.. not sure about the V7... I just did V8 - 2008 for that price...

Course you would have to do it twice... at double the cost..

Something else I just found out when using my second unlock code... It links all concerned GPS's to Garmin, so that you can't transfer ownership (through Garmin) of any one linked GPS to another owner. I used 2nd unlock for a CN Europe V8 NT+ from my 2820 and a CN NA 8 from a 60C to my new Colorado.. they gave me no grief about it, other than the warning of them being linked together from that point forward... (and that I couldn't upgrade the maps from the 2nd unlocked unit)

All my computers have at least 2 versions of CN europe on them because of the different versions on different GPS's.. it's no problem, just takes up space... As I could only upgrade my 2820 to 2008, I'm still going to be in this state when I send my Dad off with my 60c next month... Unless I buy 2008 full version for my Colorado... not worth it IMHO...

The Colorado is for hiking, biking, tracklog keeping, and as an occasional travel planning and driving tool... the last two functions require it to have CN mapping, but no need for it to be up to date...

Araspitfire - how does the Colorado compare with the 60 - amongst other things, how easy is it while on the bike??
