Garmin i3 update question.

Ok so bought the i3 12 months ago and now says requires map update when switched on. Been on the Garmin site two upgrades listed :-

Bluechart Atlantic 75 Dollars

Bluechart Atlantic Small 45 Dollars

So which one do I go for ? Or is there a way to get a free upgrade?

The i3 should be on City Navigator v8 as any early units that came with v7 automatically qualified for v8 upgrade anyway.

If you haven't registered the unit with Garmin then you might get away with an upgrade to v9 but that's not available as an upgrade until the new year.

If you did originally have v7 but sent in the TransFlash card for the free v8 upgrade then they will have registered it for you. Not sure what the situation will be with this unit anyway as it'll either need a card change for upgrade or if you have another product that has City Navigator Europe you can register a 2nd unit and write the maps to a blank card.

I downloaded the manual, but couldn’t see mention of how to turn off the ‘reqs mapping update’ Nag, I’d be inclined to call to Garmin about that if you can’t turn it off…

My i3 is V8 and as stated V9 out next year mid Jan. Cost around £45 to upgrade?

Latest info from Garmin says that earliest registration date for free V9 is already history. This means that if you register a new unit today you are qualified for a free upgrade when V9 shows up.

ISTR that you can't get an upgrade to v8 from Garmin any more so that does make sense.
