Can you reuse someone else's copy of a map that they've already loaded to their Garmin/PC?

If so then I'm looking to buy/beg/borrow/rent a copy from someone.

cheers
Millard

Yeah I decided to upgrade my status from Luddite to apprentice Geek as I'll be doing more pistes after the rest of you have gone home.
So if I borrowed your copy, could I load it to my netbook and my Nuvi, and copy into my netbook some trails already shown in other posts? then download them to my Nuvi?

Assuming that you're talking about the Olaf version.......it's free and you can download it right now to use on any device.....

Nah I don't seem to be having any luck with Olaf Fanum. Seems my mac won't recognise it as useable file. Someone said in another queerie I posted that my copy of Mapsource was not good enough for it, so I take that to mean that I'd need to buy a copy of Mapsource rather than just download from garmin's website :nenau
But as you've likely guessed from the above I'm a bit numpyish with GPS

Well that bit (highlighted) is utter bollox......I still run a free downloaded version of mapsource now, after my original source CD's got naffed years ago. ( I did a thread here about how to get it and install it legitimately, years back)

Mapsource doesn't 'run' anything, it just interprets a set of data

I have no idea about using it on a silly Mac though....I use a grown up computer not a Fisher Price fancy toy :thumb

Try asking someone who wears red rimmed glasses and eats Tofu :thumb

The Open Street Map project has produced free topo maps for many countries including Morocco.
See: http://www.openstreetmap.org click on cycle map sheet.
They have also been packaged for Garmin devices + Windows and Mac PCs, these are available at: http://mapas.alternativaslibres.es/downloads.php together with detailed instructions on how to load and use them.

Openmtbmap.org is one of the maps based on Openstreetmap, used by hikers, mountain bikers and cyclists, but with much more focus on off road trails. See http://www.velomap.org

Garmin Basecamp, Map Manager and Map Install are freely available for Mac from: http://www8.garmin.com/osx/

I have used Open Street Maps in the UK on a Garmin Zumo 550 extensively for Hiking, Geocaching and as general Sat Nav maps. They are detailed, useful, updated regularly and free.

Thanks Yorkie, I'll have a look at that :thumb
