Garmin NuMaps Lifetime Europe

So is this a proper kosha Garmin map ? If so, I'm buying from them, and saving around £20 on a Garmin site Europe map purchase - are they (Handtec) sanctioned/approved by Garmin, or do they just bulk buy from Garmin and sell on for lower profit ?

Gary , I guess that you've bought and used their download - any problems ?
Cheers, and thanks for the tip !
Roger

I bought the Lifetime Update from Handtec a few months back when it was £46.00...(?) The only downside is that you can't download it straight away. You have to wait for them to send you out a card with the code no. which you need to enter to perform the download.

Thanks Schtum - no big rush, just need the updated Europe for Montenegro maps for Sept trip - Garmin and I have a rather love/hate relationship - everything Garmin seems more difficult than it ought to be ! But when it's working, all's luvvy dovey !
I see that Base Camp for the Mac has just been upgraded, and it seems better- certainly way better that the Road Trip rubbish .

Anyhow, thanks for the info, and will likely buy from Handtec :thumb

Yes - its is absolutely legit

Yes it is the genuine Garmin update - you pay your money add 99p for postage and you get the genuine Garmin card through the post in sealed packaging, just scratch off the code and apply it to your Zumo and off you go - lifetime maps for your 660. Excellent value.

Did the same but via Penatgon GPS a month ago, a quid more than Handtec at the time but they had stock. Genuine Garmin product, great value in comparison to buying from Garmin themselves.

Got mine several months ago from Handtec as well, no problems so far...

Bought one yesterday from Pentagongps for £50 & free P&P on ebay :thumb2

ordered mine from Handtec yesterday, and it arrived this morning ! Brilliant. Not down loaded the maps as yet, will do that tonight when broadband speeds might be a bit faster.

Help please

Finally managed to download(took 20 hours) onto both the computer and Zumo but the Zumo has 'frozen' showing the 'linked to computer' picture.

Any ideas what should be the next step to unfreeze it please? Take the battery out?

Did you disconnect from the computer, ie eject both the Garmin Zumo and the SD card ?
If not, that might have caused the freeze.
Also, did you do a "Re-start" on the Zumo after the download ?
20 hrs is a long time for what is, on the Europe maps ,about a 3.6 Gig file - do you have broadband , or was it via a dial up modem ?

It does take a while after the download for the Zumo to absorb the new maps, and to sort itself out- how long dod you wait after its lock-up ?

Sorry - more questions than answers, but there are quite a few variables involved, and I'm no Garmin expert, but have had many niggly problems before now, so know what it's like; final question - what computer are you running ? MAc or PC, and did you use "Map Downoloader" to download and install?

Which Zumo, 550 or 660 :nenau

The Zumo 550 doesn't have enough room for all of the Europe for the current mapping. Having said that it should warn you about that before you install the mapping and give a suitable warning and then offer you a selection of regions with Europe to install instead. However, generally these tend to not suit UK users unless they now offer some alternatives to those offered with the 2010 mapping (I now have a Garmin that has enough room so haven't encountered that again).

Roger is correct that you need to leave the installer to do the complete install, any interruption can cause an issue. I tend to leave mine overnight once the process is underway.

Thanks for the replies. Its a Zumo 660 and I used the map downloader to the PC.

I tried holding the off button for 8 secs and that seemed to work shutting the unit off. Everything now seems ok except that I always get the message 'Cannot authenticate maps' on each start up.

Bugger.

bought from handtec 9 days ago, and still not arrived.

edit: just spoke to handtec and they say have been out of stock since 17th july, and they have no ETA for new stock. it was showing as in stock when i ordered at the beginning of the month, otherwise i wouldn't have fucking ordered it. i'd been watching the relevant page for weeks.

useless twats. avoid.

GARMIN mapping 4 USA

I have an SD card with whole USA downloaded for my big trip last May. I downloaded from Garmin and it cost about £50 if I remember.

Anyone want to buy it???? make me an offer. will post anywhere, except middle east maybe. ;)
PS> anyone else wondering why they made it with home screen showing time to destination rather than miles. ??????

You can change all the settings on the 660, if you want it to show a different data field edit it...

Its in the manual..

It will be unlocked to your GPS only, unless Garmin have changed the way they do things. It won't work in another Garmin as far as I know.
