My 2610 died so what to do? The Zumos were the obvious replacement but then I thought why not try a cheaper model. OK I would need to put it into a bag when it rained and I need one that will allow custom routes so eventually went for the Nuvi 765 at less than half the price of the zumo 550/660.

So how to fit to the bike? Well after a lot of searching I found that you can buy the 18pin plug from RS components (Hirose ST40x-18s-cv) and the pins need to be soldered (NOT EASY) as follows:

Pin 1 = 12 volts
pin 2 = 12 volts
pin 7 = plug ID - 2.2K resistor to power ground (makes plug look like VIB)
Pin 8 = power ground
Pin 9 = power ground
Pin 10 = right chan - audio
Pin 11 = left chan - audio
Pin 12 = audio ground

The ID resistor makes the plug look like the vehicle integration box and the neat trick is that this switches the audio off from the internal speaker so the GPS connects to the bike with one plug for sound and power!! :D

Also, my intercom is mono input for the audio so I had to mix the sterio output from the Nuvi to mono. I did this by connecting a 4.7k resistor into each stereo chan output and then connecting the other side of the resistors together to give the mono output. :)

Remember that the intercom input must be isolated to prevent the ground loop, IOW buy the intercom special GPS lead.
