Has anyone encountered a situation where the Quest simply resets itself, part way through a navigated journey.

I've used it in various places in the UK, with no problems UNTIL 2 weeks ago and then I discovered the magical place in Telford where whenever I travel down a specific road the QUEST just turns itself off and on again, and then continues with the journey.

Now the navigated journey is only about 5 miles, but the Quest behaves consistently on this one road (in that it just resets itself.)

Are there any environmental factors that would affect the device? There is (out of site, behind some trees) a phone / radio mast of some sort.

I know that it's not the power to the device, as the unit is set to continue after disconnecting from the power. It also behaves the same way whether on batteries only, or external (car) power.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Never heard of that one - maybe somewhere to put in as a custom avoidance area ?

Custom avoidance :D Easy when you know where they are......

I don't mind as long as it's not a broken / dodgy / flakey unit.

Spoke (email actually but just as useful) with Garmin Tech Support and they suggested a Master Reset! seems a bit of a severe solution, but as I'm used to the "Bull Gites" (Famous Frenchman) Blue Screen and the regular Master PC reset, so I thought it worth a try.

Gues what - made no difference. Their next suggestion is to return to Garmin for investigation!!!!.

I've got to say that the guys in Tech Support seem to respond pretty quickly, so I'm not disappointed. I just wish that other companies could work as efficiently.

Happened to me once when using it in the car but I've driven through the same spot several times and cannot replicate it.

This happened regularly to me.

Usually after the Quest had 'zoomed' in to a roundabout. It would fail to draw the large white route arrows, and then switch off as I left the roundabout.

I have downloaded and installed v3.30 system software from the Garmin website and it has not happened since.

My Quest has the latest software and maps loaded, with autozoom turned off (I find it a PITA)

So I guess maybe it's either:
a. me being unlucky
b. something in the air (environmental - radio waves etc)
c. faulty quest

Knowing my luck it'll be a faulty questm but Garmin suggest taking it back to them, which I may do when I return from France.

Sounds like you've gone for the right option in returning it. Mine threw a minor wobbly last week in Canterbury. We went off route following a roadworks diversion and after re-drawing the screen the Quest started navigating all European. By that I mean directing us to go to the right instead og the left when negotiating roundabouts. A quick power off/power on and normal service was resumed.

I'm updating the firmware tomorrow and also installing MapSource City Select V.7 so maybe 'Betty' got a little confused.

:)
