Garmin Quest - best way to mount?

IMO the TT mount as pictured above is shite.

I lost a Quest out of mine....I was doing max speed at about 4am on the way back from Achill last year and the wind literally blew the 'over centre' catch open...that poxy stupid little innefectual spring as pictured by Gary is pathetically useless, so I ended up with a Quest floating around in the vortex behind my screen at 120 on the M25....I grabbed for it but missed it......unit gone

I've since replaced that spring with a dirty great thick industrial one and it's far more secure....BUT......

PROBLEM 2......I've gone through three power cables.....the live connection (right hand of the four) rots away due to cathodic action, then fails....the springs are ridiculosly thin copper leaves. (The earth one is right next to it, so it just rots)

You may be OK if you remember to disconnect the power every time, or your bike stays dry, bt mine lives outside and gets ridden through the whole year......the power cable/bracket isn't up to the job.

PS I've now replaced the copper springs with small sections of steel spring, which seems to be working OK.

Did you have the locking or non-locking version?

Very good job. Garmin should ship them as modified by you!

I finally broke down and ebay'd a powered Garmin mount and was surprised to see it's basically designed to stay on the bike at all times.

I'd already decided to make the in-line connector change you did (thanks for verifying that) - but your tip about tapping into the rear light was even better.

I just received the cradle for my new 2720 so will have to do the same procedure for that. However, as it has no internal battery I've also purchased a waterproof toggle switch so I can wire direct to the bike's battery but have an independently switched feed. That way I can use the GPS with the ignition off yet isolate the lead for when parked up.
