Garmin Quest - Does avoid Highway = Motorway?

I have tried to set the Quest 2 to ignore motorways. I have ticked the box which excludes "Highways" but it still routes me via motorways.

Does Highway = Motorway?

I know I can set the route via MapSource but in this case I was on motorcycle rally, and only had the Q2 and could not set the route beforehand.

How do I tell the Q2 to ignore Motorways?

Yeah, it's pretty well explained at the link that is referenced in the second post, above.

Bottom Line is that the GPSR will take routing conditions such as the 'avoid highways' box being checked or routing preference specifications as advisory under some conditions, and not as hard limitations. This is especially evident when long intercity trips are being planned.

The 'avoid highways' check-box has the greatest impact on routes being constructed within an urban agglomeration.
