My local Halfords have Garmins Quest for £150. Would it be still worth buying or spending loads more dosh on a later all singing, all dancing 2610/2710 ? Also what, should I decide on the Quest, look out for as in mapping and stuff that comes with it. Obviously there's bike related mounting/power jobbies to buy afterwards, but I suppose I'm really looking for reasons for and against buying a Quest.

Ok - a proper answer.

I got a Quest here last year and I reckon it's the biz. I just bout the TT mount and didn't bother wiring it in as i usually just charge it in the hotel in the evenings or campsite receptions. last year did a 7,000km trip across Spain from Italy and it worked a treat. It doesn't hold everything but still retains the Europe base maps so you never get stuck.

You download th edetailed stuff as you need it. I'm off to Germany next week so i've just finished loading all of germany on so it really works well IMHO. I even pass it from car and then to MTB as it's reasonably small - something you can't do so eqsily with soem of the other monster size stuff I've seen about.

So overall, :thumb

If you buy the Quest, make sure it comes with all it should (car kit etc) & Ver 8.0 mapping, or that you get a free upgrade. ie make sure it's not a managers special/ex display.

The 2610 is about to be superceded by the all singing, dancing, makes you a cup of tea 2820, so you may find 2610 new and 2nd hand prices coming down as people upgrade etc.

All depends how quickly d'you want a GPS..........

Got a Quest 1 myself and gotta say, for £150, if it comes with all the bits it should do AND V8 or a free upgrade, that's a good bit of kit for the price :thumb (I paid £300+ when they first came out)

Smeggy....get one.:thumb

In fact, get as many as you can afford......there are still people who are buying bloody street pilot III's for £200 here and thinking it's a good deal.....  :nenau :stupid

If anyone else finds then in Halfords (particularly on the UK manland) please let us know and we'll put up a sticky for a bit......

Cheers

Bill

Get one! They work a treat and are small enough to stick in your pocket when you stop which is more than can be said for the bigger stuff.
