Garmin Quest Motorcycle Mount

I am in Australia at the moment and will post some replies and pictures when I get back to the UK.

FYI the Quest performs well in Australia, but I had difficulty getting reliable signals in Hong Kong - I guess just too many tall buildings !!!

Snap. They tell me today that they've 30 on order and I'm 4th on the list.

I've rang three other Garmin suppliers and none have stock or know when they will have stock.

I really wanted one for the trip to Holland next weekend

Probably too late now, but what about ordering direct from Garmin in the States. The mounts are priced at $72.50 (£37) on their website.

I'm number six on the Rainbow list, but told my mate to pick a couple up if he find any.

I mentioned that .. 'It may be possible just to use two holes (as those with SPIII or 2610 know) then attach on to the RAM diamond base used in the RAM-B-149, RAM-B-149Z, RAM-B-149ZA onto the handlebar or on the cross bar then add a RAP-319 as mentioned in an earlier thread. For those into plastic, the handlebar mount is a RAP-B-149'.

I have seen had the Garmin unit in my hands and you can use the RAM-B-202 so it picks up on all four holes and the mount shall be made up from separate parts. The garmin bracket mount will attach on to the RAM-B-238 ( 2 hole fixing) so the standard mount kits work fine.

Everything is mounted and works well.

The original equipment Garmin cradle fits directly onto the RAM-B-202 circular mount - all 4 holes line up perfectly.

I used a RAM-B-201 3inch arm, and a RAM-B-231 ball joint mounted on the handlebars.

The 12v to 5v conversion is done in the Garmin Cradle, the cable from this simply has +ve (with in line fuse) and -ve connections which I have taken straight to the battery for now, but I do intend to isolate this as I don't really want to have the Garmin cradle 'live' all the time.

If you still want to mount on four holes , then try using the RAM-B-149Z-G1 (originally for the SP III) as it has the round base you'll need.

I sorted this out earlier with Les Wassall (I was Wassall 'd) which prompted the RAM-B-149Z-G1 suggestion.

Its the RAM SP III bike mount so the screw pack is not needed, but buying the mount saves a few ££. I've suggested the same to the RAM boyz in 'stars-n-stripes land'.

I didn’t fancy the Garmin cradle powered all the time and left on the bike, so I have modified the cable to take an accessory plug.
Also used a waterproof fuse holder, I found the fuse holder supplied is to close to the end of the cable.

Consider a Starcom1 kit (Tecstar Electronics Ltd, St Ives, Cambs' Tel: 01480 399499) . My brother in law recently purchased a unit from them, excellent quality and a little cheaper than Autocom.
I may be wrong but I believe they're also agents for Garmin.
