Garmin slow data card access - Tips

If you’re having difficulty writing the map sets to the USB card reader try this:
Close the Garmin software
Double click the “safely remove hardware” icon next to the clock in bottom right of the task bar, click “stop” on the listed devises.
Unplug all USB devises when it says it’s safe to do so then only replace the Garmin USB card reader.
Restart Garmin software
Select maps to be saved
Click on “save to USB data card programmer”
Click “refresh list” then “save”

Another tip was don’t completely fill the 128m card, leave around 8m spare. Apparently the Streetpilot III is better able to mange the memory with a bit of space left on the card…
