After 13k miles of problem I finally got the soldering iron out - I have failed!

I have a 12GSA with a Garmin 2720 and a Starcom1 intercom. The Garmin speaker connection has a silly little 2.5mm jack socket that cannot cope with the constant vibration on a bike and is IMHO a porr bit of design from Garmin.

Anyway, I have replaced the cable twice and still I get irritating crackles and dropouts so last night I lost the will to fix it and hard wired the wee shit into the intercom.

I told Starcom1 about it (not their fault in any way but it could offer them an explanation for other problems) and written to Garmin (not expecting a reply).

It's a simple job to to:
Cut off the socket to find 4 wires.
Brown = live
White = earth
others are not used.

20 secs of soldering, 1" of shrinkwrap and perfectly clear bleating from the irritating woman-in-a-box.

I think you'll find that's what most of us do, regardless of brand of intercom unit.

We just don't wait 13K miles to do it. :D

Sorry to sound numb, but which bit did you open up for surgery, the intercom or the 2720?

Got any pictures :)

The garmin cable has a socket and the Starcom cable has a plug. Remove both, strip wires and solder together as above.

Mine was working OK and as I swap the intercom from bike to truck (as will be doing this afternoon) it means I don't have lots of loose wires hanging around the bike but it's better to be reliable! :blast
