I know there's another post here somewhere re the new 'Wanderlust Map Set' (To replace Garmins WorldMap) but I wanted to put a different perspective on things, having used it now as a Beta-tester for 4-months.
The Wanderlust Map, is it as good or better than Garmins.
The simple answer is YES!!!
Lisa (my wife) and I are travelling on two GS's and were staying with Bob in Peru, when he started compiling the maps and kicked off the project and I don't think many of you will actually appreciate how many man-hours and late nights/early mornings have gone into this, trust me it's a lot and Bob's not a pretty sight in the morning anyway
Lisa and I left Bob's in Peru and then continued North through Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela returning back to Colombia before riding up through Central America (Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras,Guatemala and Belize). Right now I'm writing this from Mexico
We've now ended switching exclusivley to the Wanderlust WorldMap after years of using Garmins WorldMap on a daily basis, it's just that much more up-to-date and has that much more road and town data.
I'll admit, initially Lisa and I would swap between the two maps, just to check if the Wanderlust maps were better ie, 'what the hell road are we on', as the Garmin Map shows...nothing, nada, zip, only to find that with Bob's map we could see the road, plus all the additional dirt tracks running off it and the small towns set back from the road that we had no idea were even there.
When Bob bragged the Wanderlust Map would locate every populated place on earth, I thought he was joking...he wasn't. Seemingly it has everything from the tiniest pueblos in Ecuador to the highways and byways of Venezuala and Guatemala. Bob thanks we'd have had a much harder time of it without you maps. Top job.
Screenshots are all well good but it's how the product works in the real world that's important. Please take it from me, the Wanderlust WorldMap lives up to the job, we just wish we'd had the maps back in Africa...christ Bob what where you doing with your time
.
If you'd like a little more info I've just updated the 'Wanderlust' Page on our own webiste with a little more detail and additional comparison screenshots. You can find it here http://www.2ridetheworld.com/wanderlust_page.htm There's even a direct link to the register and download page for the Mapset if you're convinced.
If you want to register or download the Wanderlsut Map directly from 'right here' just click the link at the bottom.
Bob, many thanks again, hopefully we'll talk tomorrow.
Cheers
