Has anyone else got a Garmin zumo 390LM mounted on an F800GS and is happy with the mount ? If so would you kindly either post a photo or describe it.

I asked the dealer to supply and fit one to my new bike and its not very good. Its partly a Ram unit, but the part it fits to cannot be tightened anymore without risk of breakage. The SatNav slowly rotates downwards.

Its also not in an ideal position.

TIA

I don't have any pictures but from the rotating downwards i'm guessing it's a handlebar mounted application with a U shaped 'bolt' threaded at both ends? I tried this with the 660 which is a bit of a beast and the same happened. Albeit i'm gong through a Mirage phase at the moment I did find there are RAM mount bolts that replace one of your handlebar clamp bolts and have a RAM ball on the top. These tend to be pretty solid... I'll post up some links if you think this may be of any help?

Best,

S

I have 350LM on a RAM mount - rock solid, never moved in thousands of miles:nenau

The Ram mount puts the satnav 95 mm above the mounting

Hi, I am just about to mount my new 390LM on my F800GSA and can't say I'm impressed with the idea of the single U clamp on the bars ? Did you find a better solution ?

MAGNET's pics are of the standard 'out of the box' mounting set up & he reckons it worked fine.

I don't quite get YMBF's pics ..... he appears to be using a mount that fits on the yoke ? & I presume it provides forward/back tilt adjustment ? What product is it ?

I ditched the Ram mounts completely and made an adaptor plate which the Garmin base screws too. The MK II (if I get round to it) will be made from 8 mm thick aluminium not 6.

One set of holes need to be countersunk and the other set tapped.

RAM mount modification

I too was worried by the single U clamp arrangement on the bars, so I made this simple mod & it has worked fine for the 2000 mile trip to Spain & back that I've just returned from. No movement at all.

I simply attached the U bolt to the left hand screen support on my GSA. Never budged in 5000 miles.

Dead easy to read and operate but touches the bars on extreme lock. Even then it doesn't move so I'm a bit surprised anyone has a problem
