Garmin Zumo 660 - Coming Soon!

hearing the news that with immediate effect ... zumo 660 UK price has been hiked up today to £499 inc VAT (SRP price), that £70 and its not released yet.

I phoned up Garmin to ask about this and they said that this is simply rumour:nenau

In fact they said that the retail price was £430!!

Anyway, one thing they did confirm was that handtec was one of their main suppliers and so should get supplied relatively quickly once the gps is released! No confirmation date yet!

After phoning Handtec I was assured that if I pre-ordered the unit at today's price, currently £362, it would not go up for me regardless of what they cost them, furthermore, they assured me that if the unit drops in price (when pigs fly) they will pass on the drop in price to me.

My gut feeling says it has to go up, so I pre-ordered. Feck it :thumb

Price UP!

Pre-ordered from these lot quite awhile ago when prices were £350, I did ask specifically ask the question of pre-order prices being what you pay if the price does go up and they were positive they'd honour that price, wonder if they'll still feel that way soon then :augie

edit: well just had a 'live chat' with one of there reps and again they say the price you order at is the price you pay when they ship, which they estimate to be end March beginning of April. Current price on there site is £366 so may well be worth preordering looking at the price RAM-man is quoting!

Just checked this web site and the price quoted is now £417.98:mad:
Frontbrake

Just checked price of a 660 on handtec and price is now £449.00.

Satnaveasy still have it at £354.00 - I've put in a pre-order.

Not what I have been told by the same company:

Hi Lloyd,

Unfortunately, due to a price increase from Garmin, we’re unable to proceed with your current order for the Garmin zumo 660. This pricing increase hadn’t previously been hinted at, and we’re obviously as disappointed as you are with this news.
We’re expecting a final confirmation on pricing and availability shortly, at which time I will contact you again.
Your current order will be cancelled, and naturally you won’t be charged anything. As soon as we have a price confirmed, I will let you know.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind Regards

I have replied and asked them to clarify as I was told the price would be honoured too.

Fech me...shirt tails got caught in the door there :augie You called that one well Ram-Man.

 Maybe some peeps will listen if there's a heads up
Any website dealer is unlikely to supply at pre-order prices without taking a big hit, margins are trimmed anyway (mentioned in a previous thread).

I accept details are being contradicted, if I say black, then one of you will say white and so on.

Yesterday's price hike was with immediate effect and the impact has already been felt by some

I still expect shipping date to fall within end April-early May in Q2

Fair doo's Ram Man, you've proven that you know yer stuff:bow

What's your view on those of us that did manage to sneek in before the price rise?? We obviously now have receipts and proof of purchase so to speak, will the suppliers have to honour that:nenau

I mean I for one, and I know others did the same, confirmed verbally before purchase with the company I bought from that they would honour my original price and was confirmed - verbally - that this would be the case! I can't see anything obvious in their terms and conditions to suggest otherwise either:nenau Although, terms and conditions are generally open to the retailers perception and not the purchasers!!

Bollox, just received the same email cancelling my order, guess the word integrity isn't popular at Purelywebstores , what is the point of preordering if they're going to cancel anyway

Not to add salt to the wounds!

At the dread of receiving one of those emails from Handtec I decided to grab the bull by the horns and ask them to confirm in writing what I had been promised verbally:augie

Here is my email:

Hi,

I recently pre-ordered a Garmin Zumo 660 from you of which the order number is ******. I have received confirmation that the order was successful and that everything went through as it shoud but I do have the following concerns. Before ordering this product I phoned to make sure that I would still receive the item should the price rise nearer its release date and was pleasantly surprised when you confirmed that this would indeed be the case.
As I suspected the price has indeed risen, substantially in fact, and although you have confirmed verbally that your company has the integrity to honour the purchase I have made I would feel more at ease if you could re-confirm this by email.

Here is the reply I got:

Hi,

That is correct so long as the order has been processed successfully there should be no problems in this regards as we have a number of orders currently at the original price,

Regards,

Well after receiving the cancellation email for my preorder from purelywebstores I've email them back, once to the bloke who sent me the email and then to the 2 blokes in charge, and surprise they don't respond. Has anyone who preordered with these people managed to get in touch and does anyone know what the score is with preorders? Surely if I've given them my payment details and they've accepted them and processed my order I've entered into a contract that means I'm obligated to purchase from them no matter what. If they'd ordered a satnav in to supply me then I pull out I can understand them being upset, but what about when it's the other way round, what happens then? :(

Depends on the small print really. For example some suppliers word their standard terms to the effect that they only accept your offer to buy the goods when they debit your card. Therefore there's no contract in place until that point and either party is free to pull out.

I've just got my CC bill and notice that Handtec have already charged me for the 660, so i guess i'm getting it for a total of 362.89 (inc shipping) - Yay!
