Gasthof Hochalmspitze

we are staying with john and co in june well looking forward to this,like many other travellers we like to see what we are paying for the trip advisor stated it was some irish people who had the complaint are we sitting comfortbly as this is one of the best complaints i have ever heard

yep its not a typo error thats what they complained about i still giggle to myself when i see this complaint looking forward to meeting you very shortly john:beerjug:

They managed to use our towels to clean their bikes so they can't have been that hard!

I actually like a hard towel... you know.. .the ones you've washed and left out on the line to dry, rather than the tumble dryer.....:rob

We are open!

As of last Friday (26th) we are open for the 2013 summer season. Bookings are well up on last year but if I am ever to to able to get a new GS we need more of you to come!

We still have plenty of availability in late July and August, despite being high season the roads around here hardly ever busy. The bulk of the tourists during those times stay around the lakes, sitting next to their caravans. Even the Grossglocker is OK if you get up in the morning and go before the coaches get there.

Early September is a busy time for us with loads of people coming to the area for European Bike Week. Mid to late September can be a great time for biking here. At the end of September we are going en mass for a weekend in Croatia, a sort of "Hochalmspitze at the seaside" If anyone is interested in this let me know.

We will remain open then through October, the weather usually remains warm here until early November. As well as bikers Autumn is one of the best times for walkers, some fantastic walking right here in the valley.

Perfect timing, We shall be returning home from a rally in Greece in September, probably after spending a week in Croatia, I will be in a motorhome towing a trailer and wondered if we could park up in safety and spend a day or two at Gasthof Hochalmspitze in a real bed, probably around the 12th.

You would be more than welcome, security is a total non issue in most of Austria, you will see bikes parked up, kit left on them, sat navs too. We often have several trailers here, we tend to put them behind the building just because it leaves all the parking for bikes.

You won't regret it, I stayed with John and 'Ros the Boss' in April, lovely place, look on my previous post European Jaunt 2 for some pics.

Lovely location as well as great hospitality and good food....

Hi we have just stayed with john and ros for 3 glorious nights the crack was great ,food 1st class ,john was very accomodating with the gps,the place is so nice you couldnt want for more,im coming back next year with our lass (who is very picky where she stays)so a big thanks from the guys the 2 geordies and the 2 scotch lads

Having started this thread, I'm just reporting back after our 2 week tour of The Black Forest and Austria. We stayed with Jon and Ros at the Gasthoff Holchamspitze for 3 nights and I have to say that we have rarely met such friendly, accommodating people in all our travels across Europe. Nothing is too much trouble and the welcome second to none. We now count them as our friends and will be visiting them again next year. I highly recommend that anyone planning a trip to Austria, should call in, even if its for a beer and a chat about bikes. We were fortunate that our stay coincided with the annual," Blessing of the bikes" parade on the huge dam at Malta. 1000 bikes on the top of the dam, being sprayed with holy water by the local vicar riding a Goldwing was a great experience even for an atheist like me!
All in all, a great place to stay!

Thanks for the kind words, I actually try to dodge the holy water, I fear I might fizz! They had the highest number of bikes ever up there-just over 1200

Also just back, booked 8 nights and stayed an extra 2 due to change of plans. Best biker type hotel we have stayed at anywhere. We were also there for the bike blessing, bike hasn't missed abeat since, so it must work. John, Ros and all the rest + other guests/friends made our holiday. Ron & Cassie
