GB Discoverer inaccuracy

Have just bought a Garmin Montana (and am nearly through the "Why do you need that?" and other questions which are of course impossible to answer :D).

But the OS GB Discoverer seems to be disappointingly inaccurate. The GPS gives the correct OS reference and is consistent with known data and also another GPS. It displays the location correctly in City Navigator and in Google Earth but is displaced by around 30m in GB Discoverer. I am surprised City Navigator is more accurate.

I need to try some further flung locations in case it is just a blip with the mapping in the locality but has anyone else had the same problem?

Haven't noticed any problems but... How exact can it be when you're looking at an overlay of a 1:50000 map that was probably drawn 30 or more years ago?
Maybe expecting too much?
I bought a German topo map covering the whole of Europe for the Montana and it seems pretty deadly along local paths and small footbridges. Unfortunately can't get the whole of UK down to 1:25000 on OS in it!

May I ask where you got the Euro topo map?

I think the map itself is fine; I have had the opportunity to try an OS map on a Nokia phone and that gives an accurate result though it was a 1:25000 rather than 1:50000. The problem is the Grid reference displayed on the map is not in the correct position. It is as if the whole map has been displaced to the North and slightly West.

The map comes on an 8GB microSD card. A cheap option onto the Montana. I use the Zumo 660 for A->B but the Montana shows what's around you. I don't have a powered mount but the battery lasts long enough. I use it on a quick release mount on the handlebar's centre section on the GSA. I can see past the tank bag to it. I've a different mount on the LH mirror mount on the R1100R so it fits on there too. :thumb2

Just noticed he has nothing on eBay just now. email is: [email protected]
