gear indicator gone crazy

The gear indicator on my 02 gsa has decided to not work in with the gearbox anymore . It reads 0 or 1 for all gears except 6 which is ok, rode for 2 hours in heavy rain a few days ago ,has been crazy ever since , does ahyone know of a fix? thanks

happened to mine while under warrantee, they replaced it. But, I think when it was replaced, they packed it with silicone grease. Try removing it, to help it dry out, then pack with grease. If i recall the sender unit is on the back of the gearbox, on the outside, hard / fiddly? to get at.

+1 I just sprayed mine with a little WD40 every day for a week or so and then gave up. A couple of weeks later normal service was resumed:thumb2

I haven't had the problem recur despite riding in some truly foul weather. I do take care not to point the pressure washer in that direction though.

I've been riding with a piece of black tape over my gear indicator since it packed in during a torrential rain storm in France last year.

I took the sender unit off last week (removed the back wheel) and it's fairly easy to get at.

There was a bit of corrosion/furring on the metal surfaces. Gave them a rub and a scrape and now working correctly....:thumb

Watch out for the 3 tiny pins and springs that may fall out when/if you take it off.
Well worth the hassle for the return of the correct gear:clap

Cheers

Leave it alone - it will get better

Took my bike for a 2800 mile run over 11 days to scotland - going over the Avemore mountian pass the gearbox indicator started to work again - think 300 mile days finally dried it out - sugguest you take a week of work and go for a spin...
